State police probe

concession theft

NEW RINGGOLD - State police at Frackville are investigating a theft that occurred between 4 p.m. June 14 and 9 a.m. Sunday at a concession stand owned by Cindy's Food Service at EZ Pull and Save in East Brunswick Township.

Police said a person forced their way into the concession stand and stole items valued at $500 before fleeing but not before security cameras captured the image of the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-874-5300.

Man jailed after

robbery attempt

A man was jailed after being arrested by Pottsville police for robbing a woman of $1 and trying to steal more about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday in the area of 123 W. Norwegian St.

Police said Robert Wayne Pruitt, 33, who has no known address, was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, on charges of robbery, theft and receiving stolen property and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $50,000 straight cash bail.

Police said officers were called to the area for a report of a disturbance and spoke to a 76-year-old woman who said she was getting into her vehicle, parked on Second Street next to 123 W. Norwegian St. when she was approached by a man, later identified as Pruitt.

The man said "I'm from Philadelphia, and my wife is two months pregnant, can I bother you for a dollar to get back to Philadelphia," according to police.

When the woman was getting a $1 bill from her bank envelope to give to Pruitt, he grabbed the envelope in an attempt to steal the entire contents from her, police said.

Police said the woman struggled with Pruitt as he ripped one dollar from her hand and then fled the area north on Second Street.

The woman and other witnesses provided a detailed description of the robber and a search of the area led to the apprehension of Pruitt a short time later on the railroad bed at the southern end of Pottsville, police said.

Pruitt will now have to answer to the charges against him before Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville.

Police investigate

vehicle thefts

Pottsville police are investigating thefts from vehicles that were discovered when officers were called to the 700 block of Walnut Street about 1:45 a.m. June 12.

Police said a report was received about a man and woman entering several parked vehicles. Police said officers received descriptions of the two but they were gone before they arrived and could not be located.

It was determined that several locked vehicles were entered in the area and various small items and small change were stolen.

About 12:35 a.m. Friday, police said officers were involved in a neighborhood patrol in the 6th Ward and found Justin Fisher, 32, of Schuylkill Haven, and Marissa Cook, 22, of Pottsville, who matched the descriptions of the man and woman from the previous day.

Subsequent investigation and interviews led to both confessing to committing multiple thefts from vehicles that were reported the night before in the area of Walnut Street. In addition, police said several of the stolen items were found in Cook's backpack and also inside her home on Nichols Street.

At the time of her arrest, police said Cook was also found with heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Both will now have to appear before Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville, on charges of conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct. Cook was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said.
