n Pottsville: Schuylkill County Treasurer Jacqueline V. McGovern, in a press release, issued notification to all county dog owners that 2014 dog licenses are past due. State law requires that all dogs three months or older be licensed by Jan. 1, she said. Failure to license a dog is a summary offense and a maximum fine of $500 for each unlicensed dog may be issued. An annual license is $8.45 and a lifetime license is $51.45. If the dog is spayed or neutered, the annual fee is $6.45 while a lifetime license is $31.45. Discounts are available for senior citizens and people with disabilities, according to the release. State dog wardens began canvassing areas on March 1 and are continuing their effort to ensure compliance with the laws, she said. License applications are available at the treasurer's office or from local dog agents.
