SHEPPTON - East Union Township's second annual Summerfest found success Friday after being washed out Thursday.
Summerfest attracted families from all over to the festivities Friday after the previous day's severe thunderstorms and heavy rain.
"We saw signs, and it looked fun for the children," Jennifer Trahan, 36, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, said.
Trahan brought her three young girls to visit family in Eagle Rock.
"It's nice to come back to this," she said.
Trahan said her daughters enjoyed being outside at Summerfest because it is much cooler in this area than their hometown.
"It's 100 degrees where we are, and there are a lot of mosquitoes," Jennifer Trahan said.
Her young daughters, Ella and Elise Trahan, said they enjoyed the rides most and look forward to these types of fairs each year.
Trahan's youngest daughter, Elena, rode her first amusement park ride on Friday at the event.
A local family enjoyed the fair for different reasons.
Maureen Gregory, 38, of Sheppton, said she and her son live a few blocks away from the fair and go because they enjoy the food.
Her son, Andrew, said his favorite part of the fair was the food, while his friend, John Ferrari, enjoyed the games and rides most.
Fair vendors hope that they don't experience rainy weather for the remainder of the festivities.
"Hopefully, there is a big turn out and everyone enjoys themselves," Mario Curreli, a worker at the beer tent, said.
Vendor Ruth Asaiya, Sheppton, said she hopes today will have calmer weather than Thursday.
"My tent flew up and broke (Thursday)," she said.
Asaiya makes and sells high-end dresses for children up to 8 years old.
Workers at Hewlett's Hot Sausage food cart hoped for the same.
"I just hope we do better than (Thursday) night," Doug Cole of Hewlett's Hot Sausage said Friday.
Hewlett's food cart sells hot sausage as well as hamburgers and hot dogs. Cole said Hewlett's food cart does about 15 events during the warm season, including the Bloomsburg Fair.
"We do a lot of fairs," Cole said. "Catawissa has an Octoberfest we do, too."
The cart was recently featured at a carnival in Berwick.
Cole said his boss's dad started the company in 1954 and is based in Bloomsburg.
Summerfest, a local fair with food, games and amusement rides, will continue today from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a '70s Flashback Show from 6 to 9 p.m. and fireworks at dusk with a rain date Sunday.
