n Barnesville: The Ryan Township Fire Company, Route 54, sponsors bingo games weekly on Thursday evenings. Doors and the kitchen open at 4 p.m. and playing begins at 6 p.m. in the firehall. The firefighters offer bus service for residents in surrounding areas, including Tamaqua. Patrons can arrange bus service with John by calling 570-467-0783 or 570-778-0905.

n Barnesville: Basic kayaking courses will be offered at Tuscarora State Park at 5 p.m. July 18 and 3 p.m. Aug. 2 and 9. Kayaks, paddles and personal flotation devices will be provided. The maximum weight capacity is 275 pounds. Registration is required by signing up at the park office prior to the course or by calling 570-467-2506. No online or fax registrations will be taken. The cost is $15 and checks may be made payable to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or people may pay in cash at the park office. The class will be canceled in the event of inclement weather. People who have their own equipment may participate at a cost of $5 per person. Child participants must be at least 12 years old and accompanied by an adult.

n Gratz: Harness racing is scheduled at the Gratz Fairgrounds beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday and July 13. Admission and parking are free. Food will be sold during the event, sponsored by the Gratz Area Fire Company, Medic 6 and the Gratz Fair Scholarship Program.

n Mahanoy City: The Mahanoy City Visiting Nurse Association acknowledged the following memorials: For attorney Robert N. Bohorad from Lois Griffiths; for John Soshiney from John and Gerry Scully, Theresa and Tom Clark, Jeff and Anne Marie Keck; for Kimberly Ann Krash Szynoski from Theresa and Tom Clark.

n McAdoo: The annual McAdoo/Kelayres community yard sale sponsored by the McAdoo Community Civic Association is set for Saturday. It includes both McAdoo and the Kline Township village of Kelayres.

n Ringtown: Aurand Memorial United Methodist Church will sponsor an ice cream social from 4 to 7 p.m. July 13 in the social hall, Main Street. Participants will make their own sundae with vanilla ice cream and assorted toppings. n Schuylkill Haven: The Schuylkill Haven Recreation Department will sponsor Family Fun Night from 4 to 10 p.m. July 12 at Island Park, Broadway Street. The free event will include games, food and fireworks. There will be charges for games and food. The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. For more information, call 570-640-9111.

n Shenandoah: High school registrations in the Shenandoah Valley School District are set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 14 through Aug. 15 by appointment only. The student must be present at registration, according to a district press release. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 570-462-1957. For a parent to register a student, the following items are required: Birth certificate, report card and up-to-date immunization record. Social Security cards are optional. Parents also need to bring any three of the following: Occupancy permit (available at municipal quarters), valid driver's license or vehicle registration card, lease or deed for property of residence, current utility bills or paycheck stub within 30 days with name and address.
