Man faces drug,
weapons charges
MAHANOY CITY - A Barnesville man was jailed after being arrested about 10:45 p.m. Sunday by Mahanoy City police with drugs and weapons.
Police said Joseph J. Michaels, 23, of 1049 Barnesville Drive, was charged with prohibited offensive weapons, possessing instruments of crime, DUI, crimes committed with firearms, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying loaded weapons other than firearms, driving at an unsafe speed, identity theft and stop and yield sign violations.
He was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10 percent of $10,000 bail.
Police said officers stopped an SUV driven by Michaels after seeing him driving at a high rate of speed and travel through a stop sign.
During the stop, police said, Michaels appeared intoxicated an inside his vehicle, in plain view, were a 12-gauge shotgun with a pistol grip and six live rounds.
A search of Michaels uncovered Oxycodone tablets, Alprazolam pills, a small amount of marijuana and various items of drug paraphernalia.
When taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood test, police said Michaels admitted using methamphetamine and marijuana within 72 hours prior to the stop.
Police probe
3 incidents
HOMETOWN - Rush Township police investigated three incidents in their coverage area, one on July 2 and the other two on Saturday.
Police said an incident on Wyoming St. about 2:30 p.m. led to charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia pending against Michael Leiby, 28, of Coaldale, after he threw 13 bags of heroin under a vehicle. He was turned over to the Carbon County Sheriff's Department on an outstanding warrant, police said.
About 11:40 a.m. Saturday, police said a home on Fairview Street was entered by a woman who stole money from a purse while the owners were outside.

About 12:50 a.m. Saturday, police said they stopped a vehicle driven by Dylan A. Bertoula, 26, of McAdoo, for violations and found him to be under the influence.
He was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood test and is facing charges of DUI and marijuana related offenses, police said.
Police release
July 4th results
HAMBURG - State police at Troop L released information on the aggressive driving enforcement activities conducted over the Fourth of July holiday.
Troopers from the Hamburg and Reading stations made six DUI arrests, issued 167 speeding citations, seven child passenger citations, 18 seatbelt citations, 303 other citations and 11 seat belt warning notices.
They also investigated seven crashes that included two alcohol-related crashes and three people injured.
DUI checkpoint
nets 29 arrests
A sobriety checkpoint conducted Saturday by Pennsylvania State Police troopers and municipal police officers in Minersville resulted in 544 vehicles contacted, 46 detained and six drivers tested for DUI.
There were five DUI arrests made along with 21 traffic arrests and three criminal arrests and issued 25 warning notices and 10 seat belt citations.
A combined total of 19 officers and troopers took part in the checkpoint.
Frackville man
faces drug charges
FRACKVILLE - A man was taken into custody on parole violations and a woman charged with drug offenses after an incident at 133 S. Lehigh Ave. on June 26.
Police said state police agents, Schuylkill County Sheriff's deputies and borough officers went to the home to serve a Protection From Abuse order against Jessie "Bonedaddy" Greasey who was released from state prison a week prior.
At the home police said Greasey was found to be in violation of his parole for having drug paraphernalia in his possession and his sister, Rose Leonard, 26, was found with and admitted having drug paraphernalia as well.
Greasey was returned to prison on the parole violation while Leonard will be charged in district court with possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Girardville man
faces charges
FRACKVILLE - Frackville Police said a Girardville man was charged with DUI, resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations after an incident about 1:50 p.m. July 1.
Police said a driver reported seeing Scott A. Roche, 21, of 23 W. Main St., driving erratically on South Lehigh Avenue and then making a right turn on red at the intersection with Oak Street.
Officers then saw Roche driving onto the sidewalk at Broad Mountain Avenue and Chestnut Street and swerving to the right, almost hitting vehicles parked in the 200 block of South Broad Mountain Avenue as well as failing stop for a stop sign at West Arch Street.
Roche was stopped in the 300 block of South Broad Mountain Avenue and admitted drinking alcoholic beverages at a bar in Saint Clair prior to the stop.
The man then pushed Patrolman Anthony Kankowsky away and fled on foot but was taken into custody in a yard at 313 S. Broad Mountain Ave.
Roche was then physically restrained and returned to his residence after refusing to take a blood alcohol test, police said.
