MINERSVILLE - The Minersville Area Skate Park Association has continued to successfully raise funds for construction of the skate park, which began June 30.

The association held a raffle in June, that was drawn July 4, for a 47-inch flat-screen TV. Bobbie Domlesky, association secretary, said Dave P., Saint Clair, won the prize.

The winning ticket was selected by a Dunkin' Donuts employee, so that someone from the public chose a random winner, Domlesky said.

The TV raffle collected $2,253 and profited the association $1,672.12, which has not yet been included in its account funds. Tickets were $3 each or two for $5.

The association made $160 from its fundraiser at the Ice Cream Caboose, King's Village. It also made $100 from a fundraiser at Steph's Sammich Shop on June 22, which the association receiving 20 percent of the sandwich shop's sales.

Frannie Mickey, treasurer, said the association had a total of $19,629.15 in its account as of Monday.

Among other expenses, the association spent $4,192.12 in concrete so far and $30 to have the grass cut, which will be a recurring fee.

The association is looking to put fencing around the skate park, as it might help them find cheaper insurance.

Construction on the skate park is estimated to be completed in about four weeks.

The first part of the skate park will be 2,500 square feet and include stairs, grind boxes, rails and ramps.

After enough funds are raised, a second part of the skate park will be added, bringing the total size of the park to about 5,000 square feet.

For the past three years, the association has thrived on not only fundraising but donations.

Along with materials and vehicles to build the park, many people have donated money via PayPal or by attending fundraisers.

The association raised more than $20,000 with small fundraisers, such as the Ice Cream Caboose and Steph's Sammich Shop fundraisers, and was also awarded $5,000 from the Tony Hawk Foundation.

Donations to the skate park association can be made by visiting www.minersvilleareaskatepark.webs.com via PayPal or by calling Domlesky at 570-294-6235.

Those interested in participating in the association can attend monthly meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month, excluding holidays, at the Minersville Sewer Authority. Meetings are open to all members, nonmembers and the public.

Annual dues are $5 per adult over the age of 18. Members under the age of 18 are associate nonvoting members and are welcome to join.
