n Ashland: The Ashland Area Rotary Club joined the clubs from Frackville, Mahanoy City, Ringtown and Shenandoah for the joint installation of officers for the upcoming Rotary year. Ringtown hosted this year's affair, attended by current District Governor Sharon Benner and incoming District Gov. Jason Piatt. The new Ashland officers who took office July 1 are President Elaine Stone, Vice President Tom Canfield, Secretary Debbie Hall, Treasurer Jim Gruber and Sergeant-at-Arms Frank Birster. The club held its annual "End of the Rotary Year Picnic" in the pavilion at Higher-Ups Park on June 26. During the meeting, outgoing President Connie Wydra updated the members on upcoming events, made her closing remarks as president and passed the gavel to Stone. The first summer concert featuring The Shoreliners will be held at 6:30 p.m. today on the parking lot at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland. The club will sell hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, chips and beverages prior to and during the concert. The food service will start at 5:30 p.m.
n Frackville: At the Frackville Museum, located in the Frackville Municipal & Community Center, Center and Oak streets, volunteers are working on the new "Sentimental Journey Room," which will open for the museum's third anniversary celebration set for the Labor Day weekend. According to a museum release, they are looking for items that were once made in Frackville, such as pajamas from the Pajama Factory, dresses from the Martin Dress Factory, men's bathrobes from the Rabin Manufacturing Co. or other items made in the borough. For anyone interested in volunteering, work sessions are held every Wednesday afternoon. High school students can gain community service hours by volunteering. n Orwigsburg: A Little Black Dress Event to benefit Schuylkill Women in Crisis is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Schuylkill Country Club. n Pottsville: The Gillingham Charter School Board of Trustees has changed the dates of two of their regular meetings for the 2014-15 school year. The meeting that had been set for 7 p.m. July 17 will now be held July 24 and the session set for 7 p.m. Jan. 15 will now be held Jan. 22.
n Pottsville: The Pottsville Rotary Club installed officers for the new term during a recent deck party at Mountain Valley Golf Course, Barnesville. Fifteen club members and 10 guests attended. President Clint Del Valle thanked members for a successful year and handed out citations to members who helped him significantly during the year, according to the Rotary Bulletin. District Governor-elect Jason Piatt attended and installed Eric Lieberman as president and installed the other officers. He also presented Jim Cooksey with his third Sapphire Paul Harris recognition. Lieberman asked for a moment of silence in honor of Capt. Jason B. Jones, who was killed in action in Afghanistan, and the passing of former Pottsville Rotarian Bob Bohorad. He also presented Del Valle with his Past President's Pin and Plaque. The club's Kauffman chicken barbecue was held June 28 in front of Boyer's Markets, Pottsville. The club's Hops, Vine & Dine is set for Sept. 18.
