MAHANOY CITY - A borough woman was jailed Sunday after being arrested by Mahanoy City police for having drugs in her possession.
Cpl. Michael Dissinger charged Andrea M. Startzel, 43, of 1038 E. Market St., with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; misdemeanor offenses of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and prohibited offenses; as well as a summary charge of driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked.
Startzel was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $15,000 straight cash bail.
Dissinger said he stopped a vehicle driven by Startzel about 4:45 p.m. in the 200 block of West Centre Street knowing she was driving with a suspended license.
Startzel, when asked for her license and vehicle information, admitted the license was suspended.
Dissinger said the woman was asked to step out of the vehicle and then asked if she had any weapons or contraband.
The corporal said Startzel reported having syringes in her purse that were "loaded with bath salts."
Dissinger said Startzel gave him permission to search her purse where he found a plastic bag containing 24 grams of a white substance that tested positive for bath salts, as well as Suboxone, Xanax, several digital scales, several cellphones, a switch blade knife and multiple items used for repackaging drugs.
The woman was returned to the police station where, after being read her rights, admitted that she "fronted" the drugs and was intending to sell them for $50 a half gram and $100 a gram, Dissinger said.
Startzel will now have to answer to all of the charges against her before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, Dissinger said.
