DUI charge filed

against man

BARNESVILLE - A Barnesville man will be charged by Rush Township police with DUI after an incident that occurred about 7:40 a.m. July 7 on Fairview Street.

Police said David A. Merenda, 55, appeared to be under the influence and refused to submit to a blood alcohol test, resulting in the mandatory DUI charge.

The man will now have to appear before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, and answer to the charge, police said.

Shenandoah man

jailed for burglary

SHENANDOAH - A borough man was jailed after being arrested in connection with a July 1 burglary in the borough.

Police said Jeremie L. Hammerstone, 26, whose address was not listed, was taken into custody on Monday and arraigned by on call Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg, on charges of burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, theft and receivng stolen property. He was then committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $15,000 straight cash bail and also on a detainer for a Burks County warrant.

Police said officers were called to 227 N. Bower St. for a report of a man on that roof who then entered a building at 229 N. Bower St., possibly carrying a jewelry box.

The investigation determined Hammerstone stole a jewelry box contaning various items, tools and about $10 in loose change from the 227 N. Bower St. home of Ronald Lopata.

Ringtown man

faces charges

MAHANOY CITY - Mahanoy City police have filed charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and one-way road violations against a Ringtown man after an incident about 1 a.m. June 30 at B and West South streets.

Police said Andrew J. Miller, 18, of 132 Strawberry Lane, will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.

Police said officers on patrol stopped a vehicle driven by Miller after seeing it traveling the wrong way on a one-way street.

During the stop, officers detected an odor of marijuana inside the vehicle and, during a subsequent consent search, found a glass pipe/bowl under the driver's seat that had marijuana residue on it.

man after crash

McADOO - McAdoo police charged a man with careless driving and failure to wear a seat belt after his vehicle crashed into a legally parked ambulance on June 21.

Police said Donald Greismann, whose age and address were not listed, told officers he was unsure how or why he hit the ambulance.

Officers noted the man was not wearing a seat belt, which would have prevented him from striking his head on the windshield.
