2 sisters charged

after street fight

SHENANDOAH - Shenandoah police arrested two sisters and charged them with disorderly conduct after an incident that occurred about 2:45 p.m. July 7 at 120 N. Jardin St.

Police said officers went to the home after receiving multiple calls about a family dispute and found Jennifer and Crystal Wentworth who had been arguing throughout the day.

A short time later, police said officers were called to the area again for a report of the sisters fighting in the street.

Both were charged with disorderly conduct and will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.

Driver injured

in 1-vehicle crash

TOWER CITY - The driver of a 1987 Jeep Comanche suffered minor injuries Friday in an accident in the borough.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said John Porter, 41, was driving south on Route 209 in Tower City when he veered off the road and hit a 2008 GMC Sierra parked on East Grand Avenue, which was then pushed into a 2000 Subaru Outback, police said.

Porter was taken by the Porter Township EMS to Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street with minor injuries.

He was not wearing a seat belt, police said. The Jeep and GMC Sierra were towed from the scene.

Porter will face several citations because of the crash, police said.

2 suffer injuires

in 2-vehicle crash

WEST MAHANOY - Two people suffered minor injuries Thursday after a two-vehicle crash in West Mahanoy Township.

State police at Frackville said the 7:30 a.m. accident occurred as Josephi Iglesias-Rivera, 27, of Kulpmont, was attempting to turn left from Route 4033 to Route 924 in his 1999 Honda Civic and Daniel Shields, 30, of Ringtown, failed to stop his 2014 Chevrolet Equinox and hit the back of the Honda.

Shields was not injured and was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Iglesias-Rivera and Ricardo Medina, 31, of Hazleton, a passenger in the Honda, both suffered minor injuries and were taken by Shenandoah Ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton. Iglesias-Rivera was wearing a seat belt but Medina was not, police said.

Neither driver faces charges as a result of the crash. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce announced that Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving DUI Patrols will be conducted now through Tuesday on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 1008, 443, 895, 125, 25 924 and 54.

Travelers are reminded to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver or to call, toll-free, 888-UNDER21 to report underage drinking.

The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program reported 44 vehicles were contacted and detained and eight drivers tested for DUI during a Roving DUI Patrol conducted Saturday by five officers from five departments.

There were two DUI arrests along with 23 traffic arrests, one criminal arrest and one seat belt citation and 18 warning notices issued.
