BARNESVILLE - Firefighters and rescue divers were sent to Tuscarora State Park on Wednesday night for a possible drowning, but the incident had a good outcome.
Crews were dispatched to the park in Rush Township about 8:30 p.m. for a report of a boat in the water with a person possibly thrown overboard during a thunderstorm.
Ryan Township Fire Chief Joseph Oliva said the boat apparently was dislodged from a dock during the first of two thunderstorms that moved through Schuylkill County.
Oliva said that after the second storm moved through, the boat was seen on the lake and emergency crews were called for a possible person in the water.
However, after checking with park rangers, it was learned that the boat apparently became dislodged and was floating free.
"This is the kind of outcome we like to see," Oliva said.
Firefighters from Ryan Township, Hometown and Quakake responded along with the Tamaqua Rescue Squad and Mahanoy City's West End Rescue Squad Dive Team.
Shenandoah ALS also responded.
