FRACKVILLE - A 26-year-old Mahanoy City man charged with taking the purse of a woman who left it on a Schuylkill Transportation System bus Dec. 13, 2012, waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale.
Timothy J. Stephens, 730 E. Market St., Mahanoy City, was arrested by state police Trooper Joseph Cazonie of the Frackville station and charged with one count each of theft of property lost or delivered by mistake and theft by unlawful taking.
By waiving his right to a hearing, Stephens will now have to answer to both charges against him in Schuylkill County Court.
Cazonie said Gale Powell was on the bus and exited at a stop in Girardville, forgetting her purse inside the bus.
The woman said she tried to stop the bus but was unsuccessful and later contacted STS dispatchers, who said the purse was not found on the bus.
The investigation led to Stephens who, when interviewed June 15, admitted taking the purse, removing money, a cellphone and pills and then dropping the purse off at a mailbox in Ashland.
