James R. Ferrier
ORWIGSBURG - A North Manheim Township man is headed for Schuylkill County Court after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing on a charge of damaging a vehicle in which he was riding.
Ryan A. Mengel, 31, of 420 E. Second Mountain Road, Schuylkill Haven, faces a charge of criminal mischief, which Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier bound over for court.
State police at Schuylkill Haven alleged Mengel damaged a vehicle being driven by Rebecca Morgan, Schuylkill Haven, at 4 p.m. April 25 on North Greenview Road near West Market Street, Bohrman's Mill, North Manheim Township.
Police said Mengel, the front-seat passenger, open-ed his door and then kicked it.
The kick sprung the door, which knocked it out of line, police said. The door overextended and creased the front right fender, according to police.
Damages to the vehicle are estimated to be about $1,500, police said.
Mengel is free on $2,500 unsecured bail pending further court action.
Other defendants whose cases Ferrier considered, the charges against each one and the judge's dispositions of the matters included:
Corinne L. Dietrich, 37, of 9 N. Fifth St., Minersville; two counts of bad checks; right to preliminary hearing waived, charges bound over for court.
Tina M. Fitzpatrick, 38, of 16 Hilltop Drive, Schuylkill Haven; three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia; right to preliminary hearing waived, charges bound over for court.

A 35-year-old Saint Clair woman charged with an incident where four bad checks at Boyer's Market in Pottsville earlier this year waived her right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville.
Christine M. Schaeffer, 308 Cherry St., was arrested by Pottsville police Cpl. James Wiederhold and charged with four counts each of forgery, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and bad checks.
By waiving her right to a hearing, Schaeffer will now have to answer to all 16 charges against her in Schuylkill County Court.
Wiederhold said Schaeffer cashed three checks at the store that were all made out to her.
One check was issued to Schaeffer by Sears in the amount of $259.73, a second to her from Sears for $295.22 and a third to Schaeffer from Staples in the amount of $298.17, the corporal said.
A fourth check was cashed by Robin Denease, Ashland, who was with Schaeffer at the time, and issued by Allstate in the amount of $267.67, Wiederhold said.
All four checks were returned since the accounts they were written on did not exist and the investigation determined the checks were forged by the two women.
Other court cases included:
Wesley M. Carlisle, 24, of 314 Wood St., Reading - dismissed: theft by unlawful taking and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
