Saint Clair looks to cut down on truck traffic

SAINT CLAIR - The borough council approved a motion Tuesday to purchase eight "no truck" signs in the borough.

"We're seeing an increase in truck activity on the east part of town," said borough police Chief Michael Carey.

Carey said that there have been several hit-and-run incidents where wires were torn down.

In some of these incidents, police were able to catch the suspects, while there are others where they have no leads. He said that the increase in truck traffic is due to the truck driver's GPS taking them in the wrong direction.

Carey wants signs placed at South Third and Railroad streets, Russel and South Second streets and somewhere on Nicholas Street.

He also suggested signs be placed on Russel Street near the Tiger's Den on Route 61 and at the bottom of the hill.

During the public comment part of the meeting, several residents complained about the borough looking like it's becoming a "ghetto" due to garbage being put out days early, grass not being cut and couches and microwaves on front porches.

Council President James D. Larish suggested that residents contact the borough office to report these type of things, rather than waiting a month or two until the next council meeting to complain.
