theft charges
MINERSVILLE - Minersville police have filed theft charges against a 32-year-old borough woman after an incident on Aug. 5.
Police said Rachel Markus, 515 Lewis St., will have to answer to charges of theft of leased property, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.
Police said Markus rented an iPad from Rent-A-Center and had it delivered to her home. The woman then placed an ad to sell the item and sold it to a Tamaqua couple for $200.
Rent-A-Center employees saw the ad and contacted police and the couple learned it was stolen and also contacted police.
The iPad was recovered and the charges filed against Markus, police said.

in simple assault
MINERSVILLE - Minersville police filed charges against a borough woman after an incident involving a child outside of her home Aug. 12.
Police said Debra M. Cedar, 662 Sunbury St., was charged with simple assault and harassment when her young son and 6-year-old boy became involved in an incident that resulted in Cedar exiting her home and grabbing the boy, causing marks on him.
Police said Cedar also held the boy while her son hit him, causing abrasions.
Cedar will now have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, police said.
Retail theft occurs
at Turkey Hill
SHENANDOAH - Shenandoah police said Saturday that a borough woman will be charged with retail theft in connection with an incident at the Turkey Hill Minit Mart on South Main Street around 9:40 p.m. July 22.
Police said their investigation determined Roxanne Babarsky, whose last known address is 202 W. Coal St., stole a hoagie valued at $3.29.
The woman will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, police said.

SHENANDOAH - Shenandoah police are investigating a criminal mischief incident that occurred at 213 S. West St. between 1 and 9 a.m. Saturday.
Police said George Rittle reported someone broke a 4-foot by 18-inch window at his home and then fled the area.
Police said damage is estimated at $400 and ask that anyone with information contact them at either 570-462-1008 or 570-462-1991.

The owners of five Schuylkill County establishments were cited by the state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for various infractions of the state Liquor Code.
- The Downtowne Tavern at 24 W. Main St., Schuylkill Haven, selling, furnishing or giving or permitting alcohol to be given to a visibly intoxicated person on May 19.
- La Casita De Familia LLC, 6 E. Centre St., Shenandoah, allowing use of a loudspeaker or similar device that produced music or other entertainment to be heard beyond the property line on Feb. 22.
- Bellisima Luna Italian Bistro Inc, 380 Center Ave., Schuylkill Haven, selling, furnishing or giving or permitting alcohol to a minor on March 28.
- Ex-Service Men's Club of Valley View, Valley View American Legion, Box 754, Valley View, failure to adhere to the bylaws on Feb. 12 and offering or giving alcohol on a prize on Jan. 20.
- Citizens Fire Co., 10 Firehouse Road, East Union Township, Ringtown, failure to adhere by bylaws on March 19.
All of the charges against the businesses will now be brought before and administrative law judge, agents said.

of break-in
MECHANICSVILLE - Port Carbon police are investigating a break-in that occurred at a borough business sometime between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning.
Police said someone forced open a door at Budro's Auto Repair, 318 Anderson St.
Police did not say whether or not items were stolen from inside.

from business
PORT CARBON - A burglary that was discovered Monday afternoon at JT's Hideaway Cafe, 318 Washington St., is being investigated by Port Carbon police.
Police said someone entered the business sometime Sunday into Monday morning, went to the bar area and stole an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing.

NEW RINGGOLD - A burglary that occured at 317 Pine St., about a quarter mile west of Oak Drive in East Brunswick Township, between 1 and 7 p.m. Monday is being investigated by state police at Frackville.
Police said Mary Moyer reported someone entered her home by pushing a screen through a door on the northwest corner of the building. The person or persons then entered and removed two revolvers, a butter dish containing about $20 in change and several necklaces.
The thief or thieves then entered an outdoor shed and stole a Devilbiss 5,000 watt generator before fleeing the area.
