Police investigate
3 incidents
HOMETOWN - Rush Township police reported on three separate incidents that occurred recently in their coverage area.
On Aug. 2, police said, officers stopped a vehicle driven by Kristiann Gallagher, 43, of McAdoo, on Claremont Avenue for a traffic violation about 11:35 p.m. and detected a strong odor of alcohol inside her vehicle.
The woman was taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus, Coaldale, where a blood test determined she had marijuana in her system.
The woman is facing charges of DUI-controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Then, an incident at 12:14 a.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart led to charges being filed against Codie Welfel, 20, of Tamaqua.
Police said Welfel was charged with underage drinking and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Both Welfel and Gallagher will now have to answer to the charges against them before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.
Police also said they are investigating the theft of a catalytic converter from a property on Fairview Street.

Barnesville man
charged in assault
BARNESVILLE - A 51-year-old Barnesville man was jailed Monday charged by state police at Frackville with assaulting his girlfriend at their home on North Fifth Avenue in Ryan Township about 5 p.m.
Police said John Cambra was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge on assault charges and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail.
Police said Cambra became involved in a verbal argument with a 43-year-old woman and that the dispute turned physical with Cambra hitting her, causing minor injuries.
2 face charges
in Pitman crash
PITMAN - The drivers of two vehicles will be cited after they collided on Creek Road, just east of Route 125 in Eldred Township, about 4:50 p.m. Sunday.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Anna Hoffman, Pitman, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck when she pulled out of a driveway at 942 Creek Road and ran into a 2001 Peterbilt truck being driven west on Creek Road by Travis B. Stehr, Klingerstown.
Stehr had passed the driveway at the time the collision occurred, police said.
Police said that as a result of the crash, Hoffman will be cited improperly entering or exiting a roadway ering and Stehr for failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic.
2 men face
charges in fight
MINERSVILLE - Two men were charged with disorderly conduct by state police at Frackville after an incident in a wooded area along High Road in Cass Township about 4 a.m. Friday.
Police said David A. Mullins Jr., 22, of Pottsville, and Dylan J. Eckert, 19, of Minersville, became involved in a physical altercation.
Both men will now have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Carol A. Pankake, Tremont, police said.
Woman injured
in Middleport crash
MIDDLEPORT - A 41-year-old Coal Township woman was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street for evaluation after the 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier she was driving crashed on Route 209, just west of this community in Blythe Township, at 2:45 a.m. Monday.
State police at Frackville said Jennifer S. Aston was driving north when her car went off the road and struck a tree stump, causing it to get hung up on the stump and required towing from the scene.
Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS and Kaska firefighters assisted at the scene, police said.
DUI enforcement
details released
The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program reported the results of three enforcement details conducted over the weekend.
On Friday, five officers from five departments conducted a Roving DUI Patrol that contacted and detained 38 vehicles and had two drivers tested for DUI.
There were no DUI arrests, but the officers made one arrest for underage drinking, 30 traffic arrests, one criminal arrest and issued 15 warning notices and one seatbelt citation.
On Saturday, two officers from two departments conducted a Roving DUI Patrol that resulted in 17 vehicles being stopped and detained.
There were no drivers tested for DUI and no DUI arrests made, but the officers made 12 traffic arrests, one criminal arrest and issued five warning notices.
Also on Saturday, 17 officers from seven departments, both municipal and state police, conducted a Sobriety Checkpoint in Schuylkill Haven that had 881 vehicles contacted, 59 detained and no drivers tested for DUI.
There was one DUI arrest made along with 18 traffic arrests, three criminal arrests, one seatbelt citation issued and 26 warning notices given to drivers.
Travelers are reminded to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver or to call, toll-free, 888-UNDER21, to report underage drinking.
ATV stolen
in Park Place
PARK PLACE - State police at Frackville are investigating the theft of an ATV that occurred between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Sunday near 351 Park Place Road, Mahanoy Township.
Police said two men and a female drove on two ATVs to the scene and the female then left on the stolen vehicle and into the wooded path north of the village with the men.
Police said the stolen ATV was a black and green 1991 or 1992 Suzuki Quadrunner belonging to Brian Yasembousky, 44, of Park Place.
Tires slashed
in Porter Twp.
TOWER CITY - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a tire slashing that occurred sometime between 1 and 6 a.m. Saturday at 207 W. Wiconsico Street, Porter Township.
Police said a tire was slashed on a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 belonging to Adam K. Null, 33, of Tower City, while parked at the address.
