n Ashland: The borough office, 401 S. 18th St., will be closed Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

n Coaldale: The Coaldale Lions Club meets at 5:45 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month in the Viennese Villa, 201 W. Ruddle St. Robert E. Ames is the club president.

n Frackville: The South End Field and Stream Association will hold a barbecue chicken dinner beginning at 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Whippoorwill Dam, Morea Road. Tickets are $8. To order in advance, call Joe at 570-874-1108 by Sept. 10. A limited number of dinners will be available for walk-ins.

n Frackville: Registration for Frackville area Girl Scouts, for girls in kindergarten through 12th grade, is slated for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Frackville Municipal & Community Center, third floor, Center and Oak streets. The registration fee is $15.

n McAdoo: Schedules for middle school students of the McAdoo-Kelayres Elementary/Middle School are available today. Orientation for kindergarten students will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday for kindergarten students, at 11 a.m. for students in first through sixth grades and at 1 p.m. for middle schoolers.

n McAdoo: A dance for the youth of McAdoo and Kelayres is set for 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Adams Street Playground, featuring the disc jockey John from The Strand. Glow items will be on sale. The dance is sponsored by the McAdoo borough and Kline Township recreation boards. For more information, call Mary at 570-929-3658.

n Ringtown: Registration for the Ringtown area Girl Scouts for girls in kindergarten through 12th grade is set for 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, West Main Street. The registration fee is $15.

n Schuylkill Haven: The Penn State Schuylkill Master Gardeners will sponsor a "Walk in the Garden" program from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 7 at the Master Gardener Trial and Demonstration Garden, Route 61 near the entrance to Penn State Schuylkill campus. The walk will include an introduction to the 16 varieties of coral bells (Heuchera) that have been planted, as well as a stroll around the newly constructed rain garden. Cameras will be permitted and Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions. Everyone is welcome.

n Shenandoah: Borough hall, Washington and Main streets, will be closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday. Monday's garbage will be picked up on Tuesday and Tuesday's trash will be picked up on Wednesday. There will be no recycling Wednesday. Trash collection Thursday and Friday will remain the same, borough Manager Joseph L. Palubinsky said in a release. Recycling will resume Sept. 11 on the east side.

n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Rotary Club has an ongoing program of providing American flags in honor of relatives or friends who are serving or have served in the armed forces. The cost is $20 per flag and the banners will be displayed in the borough throughout the year for significant holidays. Those who buy flags will receive certificates from the Rotary acknowledging the honorees. The Rotarians hope the project will eliminate weathering of the community's patriotic display flags. n Shenadoah: Hilary Condrack is the new director of the Shenandoah Area Free Public Library, Washington and Main streets. With an eye toward raising needed funds, the library collects Redner's Warehouse Markets tapes and has Boyer's Food Markets Key tags. Tags can be picked up at the library.

n Shenandoah: A PCWS pro wrestling event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Columbia Hose Company, 742 W. Centre St. Tickets in advance are $15 each for ringside and $12 for general admission. At the door, tickets will be $2 more. Advance tickets are available at Hair Designs by Roseanne, 330 S. Main St. and in Frackville at The Pizza Place, 360 S. Lehigh Ave. People who bring a canned good for donation to the local food pantry will receive $1 off the ticket price. PCWS stars will be featured in the event.
