Man flees police,

flips motorcycle

KUTZTOWN - A 35-year-old Lehartsville man suffered minor injuries after flipping his motorcycle while attempting to flee police at 11:07 p.m. Friday on Krumsville Road.

State police at Hamburg said they attempted to pull over Cruz A. Lenhart for speeding on his 1997 Suzuki GSX-R600V. He tried to flee but traveled off the right side of the road while following a left curve and struck a sign then an embankment, flipping his vehicle.

Police said Lenhart was trasported to Lehigh Valley Hospital and was later released. Police are still investigating the incident.

The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program reported 15 officers from seven departments participated in a Sobriety Checkpoint on Saturday in West Mahanoy Township.

The operation was a joint effort between municipal police officers and state police troopers.

There were 219 vehicles contacted, 56 detained and four drivers tested for DUI.

Officers made one DUI arrest, four arrests for underage drinking, 21 traffic arrests and one criminal arrest along with issuing three seat belt citations and 24 warning notices.

The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce announced that Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving DUI Patrols will be conducted now through Monday on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 1008, 443, 895, 125, 25 924 and 54.

Travelers are reminded to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver or to call, toll-free, 888-UNDER21, to report underage drinking.
