n Ashland: Registration for the Ashland Girl Scouts will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 35 N. Ninth St. Girls in grades K-12 are welcome to join. The registration fee is $15 per girl.
n Frackville: The Frackville Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday to celebrate with the Frackville High School Class of 1963 on its 50th year reunion on Saturday, September 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. to help celebrate with the class of 1963 on their 50th Reunion. The public is welcome to visit the museum, which is marking its second anniversary. The museum is always accepting items that can bring Frackville's history back to its residents. It has bumper stickers and postcards for a minimal fee. The museum is located in the Frackville Municipal & Community Center, Center and Oak streets.

n Pottsville: Rotarian Rudy Gherghel recently spoke to the Pottsville Rotary Club about the trip to Texas he and his wife recently made. They visited the Wildcatter Ranch, Graham, Texas, northwest of Dallas, he said. The ranch is along the Brazos River and has been the scene of several movie productions, including "Lonesome Dove." It is a 1,600-acre spa ranch with a hotel and offers a variety of activities including daily trail rides, shooting and swimming. Gherghel said the site provides a real taste of Texas. Helped by club President Clint Delvalle, Gherghel presented a slide show of the ranch and is activities. He also played the part well, wearing his plaid cotton work shirt, Wrangler jeans, belt buckle, cowboy hat and boots, according to the Rotary bulletin.
n Ringtown: The 2014 Ringtown Valley Community Fund Drive has begun and will continue until Oct. 14. A mailing has been made to residents of Ringtown, Union Township and Zion Grove. Anyone who did not receive the mailing can pick up a fund drive brochure at the Ringtown Area Library, 132 W. Main St., or call 570-889-3379 and leave name and address and a brochure will be mailed. The drive supports the Ringtown Community Ambulance Association and nonprofit organizations serving the Ringtown Area. A minimum donation - $30 for households of 3 or more; $20 for households of 2 or less - will make donors an ambulance service subscriber, meaning the ambulance association will accept the reimbursement received from an insurance carrier as payment in full for ambulance services. People who are not subscribers will be billed for services not covered by insurance. Contributions should be made on or before Oct. 15. Checks can be made payable to "Ringtown Valley Community Fund" and mailed to P.O. Box 204, Ringtown, PA 17967. Donors are asked to include their complete mailing address.
n Schuylkill Haven: Pianist Xun Pan will join the Gabriel Chamber Ensemble for its season-opening concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 252 Dock St. Pan was born and raised in China, studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and then at Syracuse University in New York and earned a doctor of musical arts degree from Rutgers University, New Jersey, according to an ensemble press release. He has performed throughout the world. Last season, Anita Gordon, pianist with the ensemble for 22 years, announced her retirement. The ensemble has announced that pianists Pan and Itay Goren have signed a contract to perform with the ensemble for its 2013-14 concert season. Tickets are $15 general, $12 for senior citizens and free for all students.
n Tamaqua: The finale in the seventh annual Summer Concert Series sponsored by the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce on the platform of the Tamaqua Train Station will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with a performance by Large Flower Heads.
