An Ashland man was jailed Friday and faces drug charges after county and local officers stopped him in the borough.
This came during a saturation detail, in which law enforcement took to the streets in numbers looking for criminal activity, individuals wanted on warrants and traffic offenses.
Near 13th and Walnut streets in Ashland, officers pulled over a vehicle driven by Mark Stump, 27, of Mount Carmel, for a vehicle code violation. In the vehicle was Kevin Clews, 33, of Ashland, police said.
Police found substances marked magnesium sulfate hydrated, commonly referred to as bath salts.
Detectives said the drugs weighed 375 grams, having a street value of about $15,000.
Clews was committed to Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, on a probation violation and is now facing charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Detectives said those charges will be filed at a later date at the office of Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville.
Stump, detectives said, was cited for a traffic violation and later released.
The saturation detail was conducted by detectives from the Schuylkill County District Attorney's Office, Sheriff Joseph Groody and sheriff's deputies, Schuylkill County Adult Probation officers and police from Ashland, Butler Township and Frackville.
The patrols were conducted in Ashland, Frackville, Mahanoy Plane, Girardville and Gilberton, detectives said.
