MINERSVILLE - The Minersville Area school board appointed Carl McBreen as superintendent during a special meeting Wednesday night.

McBreen, currently the junior-senior high school principal, was appointed to a three-year term as superintendent at a salary of $93,000 a year.

His first official day as superintendent is Oct. 12.

McBreen is replacing Superintendent M. Joseph Brady, who is retiring Oct. 11 after serving 51 years in the school district.

According to newspaper archives, Brady spent 39 years as superintendent, along with the preceding 12 years as high school principal.

The school board also appointed James M. Grabusky as the new junior-senior high school principal.

Grabusky was previously hired as the assistant principal at Minersville Area High School and Elementary Center during the July 2011 board meeting.

He was appointed to the principal position at a salary of $70,000 and will also begin Oct. 12.

Before coming to Minersville Area, Grabusky worked as an earth science teacher at Catasauqua High School in Lehigh County since August 2007, Brady said previously.

In other business, the board authorized the superintendent to fill the secretarial vacancies due to retirements.

It also hired two bus aides, Virginia Frankenstein, full-time, at a salary of $26.70 per day, and Dianne Kramer, part-time, at a salary of $13.35 per day.
