Police investigate

several thefts

HOMETOWN - Rush Township police investigated four incidents that occurred recently in their coverage area.

On Saturday, police said Jerald Reichenbach, 18, of Nesquehoning; James Coleman, 18, of Bethlehem; a 17-year-old Easton boy, 17-year-old Bethlehem boy and a 17-year-old West Chester girl are facing charges after an incident at 8 Great Oaks Drive in Lake Hauto about midnight.

About 2:15 p.m. that day, police said they charged Jose Curiel, 19, of McAdoo, with retail theft after he stole items valued at $59.96 from the Walmart store.

About 2:40 a.m. Sunday, police said they charged Karl Wagner, 20, of Barnesville, after officers stopped a vehicle he was a passenger in on State Road in Barnesville.

Police also said a 17-year-old New Ringgold girl and Lavonya V. McCall, 18, of Tamaqua, are facing charges stemming from a 3:45 p.m. incident at Wal-Mart. Police said the teen stole items valued at $176.72, while McCall stole items valued at $81.37.

Pottsville man

flown after crash

A Pottsville man was flown to a trauma center after the motorcycle he was driving crashed near the Dairy Queen parking lot, 465 N. Claude A. Lord Blvd., about 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Pottsville Police said Jonathan Wampole, 43, whose last known address was 601 N. Third St., was driving a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle along the shoulder of the southbound lanes when he hit a curb.

After hitting the curb, police said the man lost control, causing the man and motorcycle to go onto its left side and slide about 40 feet, coming to a stop in the Dairy Queen parking lot.

Wampole was taken to the Nativity BVM High School landing pad and flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown for treatment.

Pottsville firefighters and Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS assisted at the scene, police said.

Drivers not hurt

in Pottsville crash

No one was injured in a two vehicle crash at West Market and North Centre streets in Pottsville about 8:45 p.m. Monday.

Pottsville Police said a 17-year-old city girl was driving a 2006 Honda SUV south on Centre Street when she went through a red light, entered the intersection and struck a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Thomas Witmer Jr., Llewellyn, who was legally trying to turn left onto Market Street.

The impact caused both vehicles to come to a stop on the sidewalk, police said, adding that both drivers, two passengers in the teen's vehicle and a passenger in the Witmer vehicle all escaped injury.

New Philly man

charged of theft

NEW PHILADELPHIA - A borough man was arrested by New Philadelphia Police and charged with an incident on July 21.

Police said Trevor J. Gibas, 20, of 108 Water St., will have to appear before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko, Port Carbon, on charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

Police said Gibas entered the vehicle of Michael Thomas, 55 Macomb St., between 2 and 6 a.m. July 21 and stole a Buckmaster bow valued at $600, as well as $50 in cash.

Police said Thomas confronted Gibas who said he would return the items but as of Thursday has not done so.
