MINERSVILLE - The Minersville Area school board appointed people to fill vacancies on the secretarial staff Monday night.

The appointments included Barbara Conville, secretary to the superintendent, at a salary of $34,000; Tammy Roberts, secretary to the high school principal, at a salary of $30,000, and Kristi Adams and Drenda Skibiel, office secretaries, at $28,000 each.

Superintendent M. Joseph Brady was previously authorized to fill the secretarial vacancies due to retirements.

At the end of the meeting, the board thanked Brady and his secretary, Lisa Paul, for their years of service.

According to newspaper archives, Brady's retirement is effective Oct. 11 after 51 years of service to the district, with 39 years spent as superintendent, along with the preceding 12 years as high school principal. Paul's retirement is effective Oct. 8 after 35 years of service.

"I'd like to thank Mr. Brady for all his service," board President Albert J. Wank said. "Thank you Mr. Brady for 51 years of service to the Minersville Area School District. We really appreciate everything you've done and we wish you the best. Hopefully you'll have lots of fine memories of all our board meetings too. Mrs. Paul will be leaving us also, so we would like to congratulate Mrs. Paul as well."

"I'd like to thank Lisa for all of her expert work here," said Secretary Gretchen R. Ulmer.

Both Brady and Paul said they will miss everyone at the school district.

"It's going to be fun to be with my grandchildren and my parents," Paul said.

Carl McBreen, currently the junior-senior high school principal, will start his position as superintendant on Oct. 12.

McBreen was appointed to a three-year term as superintendent at a salary of $93,000 a year during a special meeting Sept. 11.

Also on Oct. 12, James M. Grabusky will start his position as the new junior-senior high school principal.

The school board appointed Grabusky to the position at a salary of $70,000 during the special meeting.

Grabusky was previously hired as the assistant principal at Minersville Area High School and Elementary Center during the July 2011 board meeting.

Before coming to Minersville Area, Grabusky worked as an earth science teacher at Catasauqua High School in Lehigh County since August 2007, Brady said previously.
