Police release info

about man struck

Pottsville police released information about a pedestrian accident that occurred at Laurel Boulevard and Centre Street about 11:20 a.m. Sept. 17.

Police said Darnell Golphin, 57, of 23 Fritz Reed Ave., Schuylkill Haven, who is legally blind, was trying to cross Laurel Boulevard from the west side of Centre Street to the north when he was struck by 2002 Oldsmobile Alero driven by Dorothy Gittleman, 67, of 417 Baber St., Pottsville.

Police said Gittleman reported traveling east on Laurel Boulevard and stopping at red light at the intersection. Once the light turned green, the woman said she waited for an oncoming vehicle to pass and then drifted into and through the intersection and did not see Golphin.

Police said Gittleman reported hearing a bump, causing her to realize she struck something and that she turned around on North Centre Street and returned to the scene.

Police said Golphin was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street for an ankle injury he suffered in the accident.

No charges were filed as a result of the crash, police said.

2 men not hurt

in I-81 crash

GRANTVILLE - A Pottsville man and a Port Carbon man escaped injury Saturday night when their vehicle hydroplaned and hit a barrier on Interstate 81 in East Hanover Township, Lebanon County, police said.

State police at Jonestown said at 7:08 p.m., David C. Bowers, 34, of Pottsville, was driving a 2007 Dodge Caliber north on Interstate 81 in the left lane and the vehicle hydroplaned at mile marker 83.2, and struck the concrete barrier. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed, police said.

The passenger was Jamie P. Robbins, 33, of Port Carbon, according to police.

Police charged Bowers with speeding.

Vandals damage

company trucks

MINERSVILLE - Vandals smashed several windows and headlights on five construction trucks and two Euclids on property in Cass Township owned by Reading Anthracite Co., Pottsville, police said.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Woman not hurt

in area accident

NEW RINGGOLD - An Orwigsburg woman escaped injury when she fell asleep at the wheel and drove off East Railroad Avenue early Saturday, police said.

State police at Frackville said Emily Noecker, 21, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox south on the 500 block of East Railroad Avenue, which is state Route 443, at 1:15 a.m. when she fell asleep and drove off the east side of the road. Her car hit a wooden privacy fence and a parked vehicle and came to rest against the parked vehicle facing southeast, police said.

Police said Noecker's car sustained moderate damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The woman will be cited as a result of the crash, police said.

Haven man hurt

in Pine Grove

PINE GROVE - A Schuylkill Haven man suffered a minor injury when he drove off a road in Pine Grove Township and hit a dirt embankment Saturday afternoon, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said at 2:34 p.m., Austin L. Bohr, 21, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet 2500 east on Oak Grove Road when his vehicle swerved out of control after exiting a curve in the road. Police said the front driver's side hit the embankment and the vehicle flipped onto its roof.

A passenger, Raymond L. Bohr, 25, of Schuylkill Haven, escaped injury, police said.

Police charged Austin Bohr with speeding, and noted that Pine Grove EMS and Pine Grove and Suedberg firefighters assisted at the scene.

Bicycle stolen

in Shenandoah

SHENANDOAH - Borough police are investigating the theft of a bicycle that occurred at 28 N. Gilbert St. in the borough between 5 and 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Police said Crystal Klisiewicz reported that someone stole a 10-inch, light-blue BMX bicycle with "Next" on the seat and rails from under her porch and fled the scene.
