n Pottsville: The Pottsville Rotary Club recently welcomed its November students of the month, Rachel Wood and Dylan Palamar from Nativity BVM High School and Rachel Shields and Alexander Martz from Pottsville Area High School. The students told Rotarians about their school and community activities and plans for the future. Rotarian Frank Peron made a presentation to the students about Rotary. Eric Lieberman, Hops, Vine & Dine chairman, presented checks to the two HVD beneficiaries for 2013, Rotary Little League and the Rhoades Foundation. Each group received $2,000. Lieberman also thanked the members of the HVD committee and announced he will stop down as chairman next year because he will be the club president. Pete Kietsock will assume the HVD seat next year.

n Pottsville: Theresa Santai Gaffney, Schuylkill County register of wills and clerk of the orphans' court, released the following report for October: Estates processed, 80; marriage licenses issued, 49; adoptions completed, two; inheritance tax remitted to the commonwealth, $703,776.27; county fees collected, $18,388.50.

n Shenandoah: Local veterans will hold a Pearl Harbor Day commemoration at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 6 at American Legion Memorial Garden in the 100 block of North Main Street. The observance will be followed by a breakfast for all veterans and their spouses at 10 a.m. in the Shenandoah Senior Community Center, 116 N. Main St. Those planning to attend are asked to make reservations by calling 570-462-1965.

n Tamaqua: The third annual Tamaqua Community Advent Breakfast is set for 8:30 a.m. Dec. 7, hosted by Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and sponsored by the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce, the Tamaqua Area Partnership and the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network - TAFFN. It will feature the Coalcracker Chorus, directed by Richard Clemson. The chorus includes members from Tamaqua and the surrounding area. In addition to seasonal music, the program will feature breakfast by the Zion Culinary Crew, an Advent message by the Rev. Kevin Roberts of Tamaqua's Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church and a candle-lighting ceremony. Luminaria kits will also be available. The Advent breakfast is modeled after the same event in Bethlehem, which will observe its 47th anniversary this year, also on Dec. 7. TAFFN is an organization of lay leaders from Tamaqua congregations formed to promote understanding and cooperation among all groups doing God's work in the community, organizers said in a release. Tickets for the breakfast are available through TAFFN members, church offices and the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce office at 114 W. Broad St. No tickets will be sold at the door.
