PINE GROVE - Two Pine Grove men were injured in a one-vehicle crash about 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Keefer Road and were flown to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from the site.
According to state police at the scene, the driver of a gray 2002 Ford Focus, Tyler Schaeffer, 21, of Pine Grove, lost control of the vehicle while traveling east on Keefer Road at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle exited the roadway on the north side and hit two trees, then spun counterclockwise 180 degrees with the rear of the vehicle hitting another tree north of the roadway. The car came to rest in the eastbound lane facing west.
Schaeffer was partially ejected from the vehicle, while the passenger, Adam Zerbe, 19, of Pine Grove, was ejected.
At the scene, the front of the vehicle with the engine could be seen in the woods, cut off as a result of hitting the two initial trees.
The vehicle sustained heavy damage and most of it was crushed.
Also at the scene, on the roadway, were smashed bottles from a case of "Twisted Tea."
Police said the investigation continues, pending toxicology results.
Snow squalls may have been a factor in the crash, police said at the scene.
Both men were flown to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center via Life Lion 3 and suffered severe injuries.
Assisting on the scene were Suedburg Community Fire Company, Ravine Fire Company and Pine Grove Hose, Hook and Ladder Fire Company.
