n Ashland: Shepherd's Table free meals are held from 3 to 5 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 35 N. Ninth St. People should use the rear entrance.

n Frackville: A holiday cookie sale will be held from 10 a.m. to sellout Dec. 14 at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, 209 S. Lehigh Ave. The feature is a 1 1/2-pound homemade cookie assortment, which is on a gift-wrapped tray.

n McAdoo: St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 210 W. Blaine St., is taking orders for its Christmas pirohi sale. To order, call 570-929-1211, 570-929-1089 or 570-668-4960. Pickup is set for 4 to 5 p.m. Dec. 12.

n McAdoo: The local Veterans of Foriegn Wars post is accepting signups for the children's Christmas party, which will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 14 at the post. Signups are for member families and children of the community up to 9 years old. The deadline to sign up is Saturday. To register, call the post at 570-929-1740.

n McAdoo: Those who have loved ones or friends in the military and would like them to receive Christmas cards from home are asked to contact Mary at 570-929-3658. McAdoo officials and residents want them to know that they are thinking of them and to thank them for their service, according to a release. The holiday greetings project is sponsored by the McAdoo Community Civic Association.

n New Ringgold: The seventh annual West Penn Christmas tree lighting ceremony was held Nov. 30 at the township annex building. Festivities included caroling, cookies, cocoa and a visit from Santa, sponsored by the West Penn Lions Club.

n Oriwgsburg: People on hand Saturday for the annual Festival of Lights will have the chance to vote for two winners for the wreath-decorating contest. Voting will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the square. This is the first year for the wreath-judging, Pat Falco, vice president of the Orwigsburg Business and Professional Association, said in a release. It's a way for more community involvement, she said. Entrants paid $10 and monetary prizes will be awarded for first place and honorable mention. Sixteen businesses and the borough will have wreaths to be judged. The festival will also include carol singing, Santa and lighting of the borough Christmas tree.

n Saint Clair: At 1 p.m. Saturday, American Legion Post 719, the Saint Clair Color Guard, Saint Clair Welfare Council and the Vietnam Veterans Firing Squad will stage a remembrance of Pearl Harbor at the precise time the bombing occurred, at Admiral Boone Park, South Third Street. All are welcome.

n Shamokin: The Anthracite Heritage Museum, located above the library on Independence Street, is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. All are welcome.

n Shenandoah: Children will have the opportunity to meet Santa Claus on Saturday during a holiday event from 5 to 7 p.m. at Girard Park. The outdoor event is sponsored by the Greater Shenandoah Area Chamber of Commerce in connection with its Light Up the Park initiative. Santa will visit with the children at the park's pavilion. Children will receive candy canes, sponsored by Jerry Sadusky Plumbing & Heating, and hot chocolate, provided by the Shenandoah Community Watch. "We invite all children from the surrounding towns to come and visit Santa," chamber Secretary Betty Ann Bugden said.

n Tamaqua: Three nonprofit organizations recently benefited from the community service efforts of the PA Torchbearer Theta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Checks in the amount of $200 each were presented to Darlene Smith, Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care facilities manager; Bob Derr, chief and director of the Tamaqua Rescue Squad and Jessica Bettinger, shelter manager of the Ruth Steinert SPCA. Sharon Connely, president, and Kay Ann Rottet made the presentations on behalf of the sorority. The chapter meets twice monthly. The next meeting will be held on Dec. 11.

n Tamaqua: The third annual Tamauqa Community Advent Breakfast set for Saturday is sold out and no tickets will be available at the door at Zion Lutheran Church other than those already arranged, organizers said in a release.

n Tamaqua: Weekly street sweeping operations in the borough have been discontinued for the winter. The schedule will resume in the spring. Streets will be posted. For more information, call Tamaqua Borough Hall at 570-668-3444. The office is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
