ORWIGSBURG - The borough council will select a new council member at a special meeting today as it conducts other borough business.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the borough building's council chambers at 209 N. Warren St.
A seat for a two-year term on the council remains open because Barry Berger resigned to assume his new role of mayor after being elected last November. The person selected must fill out an affidavit of residency to the borough before Berger would swear that person in to the position. Borough Manager Mike Lonergan said the new council member could then take his seat at the 7:30 p.m. work session Feb. 5.
Four people applied for the post, including David Rubright, a retired business owner; Joshua Kreitzer, an employee of Kreitzer Sanitation; Regnal Leibensperger, former owner of the Deer Lake Inn; and Brian Baldwin, a 10-year resident and father of four who is also the borough engineer for Saint Clair.
Baldwin serves as a member of the borough zoning hearing board. If appointed to the council, he will resign his seat on the board.
