n Nesquehoning: The Navy Club of the United States, USS Carbon County Ship 260, which also covers Coaldale and Tamaqua in Schuylkill County, meets at 7 p.m. the last Monday of the month in the Nesquehoning VFW post, 300 E. Center St. The unit is looking for new members. People 18 or older may also become associate members, according to Robert Siesputowski, chaplain and public relations coordinator. Scott Reinhart is the current commander. Siesputowski said the club is in the process of electing new officers. The club is open to all active duty, reserve and honorably discharged veterans of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Army and Air Force veterans may become associate members. n Pine Grove: A Diakon Living & Learning Midsummer Night Dance is set for 7 to 10 p.m. July 12 in the clubhouse at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. According to a release, it will be an evening of fun and dancing to the oldies with music by The Sensations. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door and include refreshments. A Diakon Living & Learning Clam Bake & Night Float will be held at the park from 6:30 to 9 :30 p.m. July 20 to take advantage of a summer full moon. n Pottsville: The Allied Artists of Schuylkill County meeting and visiting artist is set for 7 to 8 p.m. July 16 at the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts, 1440 Mahantongo St. The artist for July is Martin Velez, a Mechanicsburg resident who was born in the Bronx, New York City. He is self-taught and has become an award-winning artist who shows in galleries and juried shows. He will show and discuss the techniques he uses in his oil painitings. He has a non-traditional approach to painting. The public is welcome to attend. The Allied Artists group meets the third Tuesday of the month April through November except in September, when the annual art exhibit is held.
n Pottsville: The Pottsville Rotary Club will install officers for the 2013-14 year at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the clubhouse at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park, Pine Grove. The caterer for the event will be Ruby's Kitchen, according to a flier forwarded by Rotarian Clint Delvalle.
