nabbed for drugs
TOWER CITY - State police at Schuylkill Haven arrested a Porter Township man Thursday morning for possession and intent to deliver more than $10,000 worth of cocaine and heroin.
William Blanton Pennington Jr., 60, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi, Tremont, on two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said in a public information release report Thursday afternoon. He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison, police said.
According to police, state police, assisted by Tower City and Hegins Township police departments, executed a court-authorized search and seizure warrant at 423 Greenwood Road at 11 a.m. Thursday, police said. Quantities of heroin and cocaine were seized with a street value in excess of $10,000 along with drug paraphernalia, police said.
Hamburg man
hurt in accident
KUTZTOWN - A Hamburg woman suffered a minor injury Thursday when she lost control of her pickup truck on an icy road in Greenwich Township, Berks County, went airborne over a drainage ditch and rolled over, police said.
State police at Hamburg said Susan Elizabeth Adam, 61, was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger south on Kohler's Hill Road at 2:07 p.m. as she rounded a left curve covered with snow and patches of slush. She traveled across the northbound lane and drove into a field when the accident occurred, police said.
Adam had to be extricated from the vehicle by Kutztown firefighters and EMS personnel. She was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown, for treatment, police said, and the truck sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
The northbound lane was closed for an hour and a half as crews cleared the scene. Adam will be charged with failing to stay in her lane, police said.
Police probe
I-81 collision
TREMONT - State police at Jonestown are investigating a crash that occurred on Interstate 81 in Tremont Township on Jan. 17 in which a van collided with a Jeep and fled the scene.
Police said Damieka T. Redden, 22, of Gouverneur, N.Y., was driving a 2008 Jeep Patriot in the left lane of I-81 North near mile marker 106 at 12:28 p.m. when a white van with a blue and red logo on its side came from behind, turned into the right lane and passed it. The van merged into the left lane in front of the Jeep, but in the process the left rear of the van struck the right front of the Jeep, police said.
The impact sent the Jeep spinning counterclockwise into the guide rail on the left berm, where it came to rest, police said. The van failed to stop at the scene and continued to flee north, police said.
The Jeep sustained disabling front damage and had to be towed, police said.
Redden and her passenger, Damien Redden, 24, were not injured, police said.
Muir man not hurt
in Hegins crash
HEGINS - A Muir man was not injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 4:22 p.m. Thursday on Gap Street near Schwenks Road, police said.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said George A. Wolfe, 47, was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla south on Gap Street when it started snowing and there was some slush on the road. While driving around a left curve, Wolfe lost control while driving over some slush, traveled across both lanes of Gap Street and onto the east berm. The vehicle traveled up a slight embankment and struck a tree with the driver's side front and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof, police said.
The vehicle was towed from the scene and Wolfe faces charges for failing to drive at a safe speed, police said.
Assisting at the scene were Hegins Ambulance, Valley View and Hegins Fire Departments and fire police, police said.

tattooed minor
SAINT CLAIR - Borough police charged a man for illegal tattooing of a minor, a third-degree misdemeanor offense.
Police said James Connolly, whose age and address were not available, tattooed a juvenile without parental consent. The juvenile, police said, had a depiction of a skull in permanent ink on the left inner forearm.
The charge against Connolly was filed with Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, police said.
Theft results
in charges
SAINT CLAIR - A retail theft incident at the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Monday led to borough police taking a wanted man into custody.
Police said Bruce Bass, whose age and address were not available, was stopped by store security for trying to steal items valued at $772.44. Bass refused to stop when ordered by security and was taken into custody by officers.
It was learned that Bass was wanted on a bench warrant from Schuylkill County Court and was taken directly to Schuylkill County Prison, police said.
Police said Bass was charged with retail theft in connection with the incident and that additional charges will follow from previous thefts in which he participated.
Woman charged
in theft at store
SAINT CLAIR - Borough police arrested a woman on charges of felony retail theft after a Dec. 27 incident at the Wal-Mart Supercenter.
Police said Pauline Pytak took items valued at $399.17 and passed all points of sale and entered the vestibule where she was stopped by store security. Police said Pytak left the cart and refused to stop, got into her car and exited the parking lot. Officers put out a radio bulletin describing the car that was later located and stopped in Frackville by New Castle Township police.
Police said officers went to Frackville with security photos of the woman involved in the theft and identified Pytak as the person responsible. Police said they filed the charge against Pytak with Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, and the woman was banned from entering Wal-Mart property indefinitely.
