Man arrested
for trespassing
DARKWATER - A 31-year-old Pottsville man was jailed after being arrested by state police at Frackville in connection with an incident in a wooded area north of Darkwater Road in New Castle Township between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said Jonathan J. Kintzel was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, on charges of criminal trespass and persons not to possess firearms and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10-percent of $15,000 bail.
Police said Kintzel and another man were found by Reading Anthracite Co. property without permission. The two, police said, had lit a fire and were burning plastic off pieces of copper wire.
The men went to the area in Kintzel's truck and the man was also found in possession with a firearm despite him being a convicted felon and not allowed to have a weapon.

PORT CARBON - Port Carbon police investigated two incidents that occurred in the borough on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Police said Shelia Ansbach, Port Carbon, reported someone stole her 1996 Geo Tracker from the 200 block of Coal Street sometime between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the vehicle was later found about 1 p.m. Wednesday at 13th and Seneca streets in Pottsville.
Then, also between 11 p.m. Tuesday and sometime Wednesday morning, police said Andrew Runkle reported a "smash and grab" that occured in the 300 block of Coal Street.
Police said someone broke the passenger's side window of the man's vehicle and removed a wallet before fleeing.

6 tanks stolen
from business
PORT CARBON - A theft that occurred about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday in the borough is being investigated by Port Carbon police.
Police said representatives of Liberty Oil Co., Main Street, reported someone stole six 20-pound propane tanks from a locked storage bin.
Two people were seen cutting the padlock and removing the tanks, police said, adding that anyone with information can call their department at 570-622-5411. All information received will remain confidential.
Copper pipes
reported stolen
PORT CARBON - Port Carbon police are investigating a burglary that occurred at a vacant home in the unit block of Coal Street between Jan. 19 and Sunday.
Police said David Underwood, Schuylkill Haven, reported someone entered his property through a basement door and removed copper pipes before fleeing undetected.

17-year-old faces
traffic charges
TUSCARORA - A 17-year-old Tamaqua boy will be charged with a stop sign violation after he pulled his 2001 Dodge Neon into the path of another vehicle at Route 209 and Catawissa Street in this Schuylkill Township village about 3:05 p.m. Wednesday.
State police at Frackville said the teen pulled out from a stop sign on Catawissa Road and into the path of a 2004 Dodge Caravan being driven south on Route 209 by Donna Folweiler, 63, of Tamaqua.
Police said Folweiler tried to avoid a collision but could not do so, resulting in the front of her van hitting the driver's side of the teenager's car.
The impact shoved both vehicles across Route 209 onto the east shoulder, police said.
Folweiler and a passenger in her van, Cheryl Blanco, 55, of Nesquehoning, were taken to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for treatment of minor injuries while two other passengers, two 5-year-old girls, one from Tamaqua and the other from New Philadelphia, were in child safety seats and not injured, police said.

in vehicle theft
MAR LIN - A 45-year-old Mar Lin man was arrested by state police at Schuylkill Haven and charged with theft of a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle following an incident at 25 Maple Ave. between Jan. 9 and 24.
Police said a 73-year-old Mar Lin woman gave permission to Robert Valentine to drive her car to Schuylkill Haven, but the man drove to Delaware and never returned.
Valentine also ignored several requests by the owner to return the vehicle, police said.
Valentine will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.

Eldred Twp. crash
KUNKLETOWN - A Halifax man escaped injury after he drove off the road and into a utility pole in Eldred Township on Tuesday evening, state police at Schuylkill Haven said Thursday.
At 6:17 p.m., Thomas E. Cornwell, 31, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier south on Route 125 too fast for conditions. As he approached a sharp left turn, he applied his brakes, left 50 feet of skid marks on the road, then crashed into the pole on the outside of the curve, police said.
The vehicle was towed and police charged Cornwell with speeding.
City woman
charged in theft
SAINT CLAIR - A 23-year-old Pottsville woman was charged with retail theft by Saint Clair police after an incident at Wal-Mart Supercenter about 12:25 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said Amanda L. Smith, 198 Llewellyn Road, will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.
Police said Smith was charged for trying to leave the store without paying for four items valued at $16.72.
Halifax man hurt
in I-81 collision
MAHANOY CITY - One person suffered minor injuries when two vehicles collided in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81, at mile marker 131.7 in Mahanoy Township about 5:50 a.m. Tuesday.
State police at Frackville said Jerry Wilkins, 47, of Altoona, was driving a 2013 International Harvester truck when he pulled onto the highway and drove into the path of a northbound 2014 Volvo being driven by Jay Simmons, 54, of Halifax.
Police said Simmons suffered minor injuries while Wilkins was not hurt. PennDOT provided traffic control while diesel fuel that spilled was cleaned up.
Wilkins, police said, will be cited for causing the crash.
