Snow and ice covered the county again Wednesday, causing all schools to close and problems for morning commutes.
A snow and ice-covered Interstate 81 in Delano Township was the reason for a morning crash between a tractor-trailer and SUV, in which two people escaped injury.
State police at Frackville said the crash occurred at 9:25 a.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 133.7.
Police said Tarell T. Williams, 34, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was driving a 2006 International Harvester truck northbound when he lost control while passing a 1998 Kia driven by Christina L. Card, 34, of Mahanoy City.
The truck struck the guide rail on the east berm, continued and jackknifed, coming to a stop across both northbound lanes.
Card's SUV struck the rear of Williams's truck, police said.
Both lanes were shut down for several hours while towing crews removed both the tractor-trailer and SUV.
Ryan Township EMS assisted at the scene and both Williams and Card suffered minor injuries, police said, adding that Williams will be cited as a result of the crash.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, which provides unofficial snow accumulation totals throughout the day from either trained spotters, from the public or co-op observers, the county saw two to four inches Wednesday.
