Roman Delight in the Fairlane Village mall has closed.
A dark tarp blocked the view inside the nearly 40-year-old restaurant and the gates were locked Wednesday.
Barry S. Borsky, leasing representative for Levin Management Corp., the leasing agent for the mall, confirmed the restaurant closed but did not know why.
Vito Valenti, owner of Roman Delight and Vito's Coal Fired Pizza in Saint Clair, could not be reached for comment.
A Facebook post said Vito's was closed Wednesday.
Robert Carson, executive vice president of Levin Management Corp., also did not return a call for comment.
Sudhir Mehra, one of the owners of the mall, said Wednesday that he was told Monday by Steven Wolf, the property manager of the mall, Roman Delight was closed. Wolf had heard this from Jessica Miller, a marketing employee.
Miller said Wednesday she did not know why the restaurant closed this week.
"They didn't tell us. We didn't hear of any official communication with them or anything," Mehra said about the closure.
The restaurant has nine months left on its lease, he said.
Mehra said Wolf tried several times to contact Valenti but has not received a reply. Mehra said he did not know if Valenti had expansion plans or upgrade plans for the restaurant.
Leo Grace, a supervisor with Norwegian Township, said he didn't know of any permits applied for or received for work at the location.
