Ashland man OK

in vehicle fire

WEISHAMPLE - An Ashland man escaped injury after the vehicle he was driving caught fire about 5 p.m. Friday on Middle Road, just north of Knorr Lane in Barry Township, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Thomas R. Klinger, 49, was driving a 2002 Saturn L200 west on Middle Toad when a fire started in the front passenger-side compartment, disabling the vehicle. Hegins Area firefighters extinguished the blaze, police said.

Bank bag taken

from facility

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating the theft of $250 from a nursing home that occurred between March 9 and 10 in East Norwegian Township.

Police said someone took an old, heavy bank bag from the drawer of the receptionist's desk at Schuylkill Center, 1000 Schuylkill Manor Road, before fleeing on foot.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Trooper Holly B. Reber-Billings at 570-593-2000.

at Sheppton home

SHEPPTON - State police at Frackville are investigating a burglary that occurred between March 5 and April 5 in this East Union Township village.

Police said someone cut a screen on the rear door to 941 Center Street and then pried open the door leading to the adjoining residence of Kathy Hoystrich, 939 Center St. and stole several feet of aluminum baseboard heaters, a 100-gallon water heater and a jewelry box containing various pieces of costume jewelry.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 570-874-5300.

Tremont woman

charged in theft

HAMBURG - State police at Hamburg arrested a Tremont woman following an incident at a store in Tilden Township, Berks County, on Saturday.

Police allege Amanda Lynn Lebo, 35, tried to remove $482.15 worth of merchandise from Cabela's, 100 Cabela Drive, at 3:02 p.m. She was released from custody after being processed at the station, and charges will be filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Kim L. Bagenstose, Hamburg.

Man escapes

injury in crash

DEER LAKE - A Danville man escaped injury after his vehicle went over a guide rail at 6:50 a.m. Saturday on Route 61, just east of Chestnut Ridge Drive, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Emmett J. Ackerman, 30, was driving a 1994 Acura Integra north on Route 61 when the vehicle went outside the lane, struck a guide rail and continued over the rail onto the northbound berm for about 40 yards. Police said this section of the roadway, which has 4-foot-tall concrete construction barriers on both sides, was wet at the time of the accident.

Police said the vehicle was towed from the scene and Deer Lake/West Brunswick firefighters and EMS assisted at the scene.
