CRESSONA - A Minersville woman was charged Monday with numerous offenses as a result of an accident last year in which the car she and three young children were in slammed head on into another vehicle on Route 901 in North Manheim Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven charged Nicole M. Moore, who was 27 at the time, with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, DUI-controlled substance, DUI-general impairment, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, careless driving, reckless driving and several traffic violations.
Trooper James Nestico said the charges against Moore stem from the crash that occurred at 2:35 p.m. Sept. 21 on Route 901 near Red Horse Road.
According to Nestico, Moore was driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata west when she crossed over the center line and entered the eastbound lane into the path of a 2010 Kia Soul driven by Debra Skripko, 54, of Llewellyn.
Nestico said Skripko tried to avoid a collision but her vehicle was struck head on by the Moore vehicle on the shoulder of the road and the impact pushed Skripko upward onto an embankment, causing it to roll back down and onto its roof.
Inside the Moore vehicle were three children, ages 6, 3 and 5 months. Nestico said the 6-year-old and 5-month-old suffered serious injuries and were flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. Moore suffered moderate injuries while the 3-year-old escaped injury.
Moore and the 3-year-old, along with Skripko, who had moderate injuries, were taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for treatment and the child was later released to family members.
Nestico said Moore and the children were wearing seat belts and the children were seated in the rear of the car at the time of the crash.
He said Moore showed signs of being intoxicated and submitted to a blood alcohol test. On Nov. 2, he continued, the drug-toxicology test came back positive, resulting in Monday's charges against Moore.
Moore will now have to answer the charges before Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg, Nestico said.
