n Pottsville: The American Cancer Society will sponsor a "Look Good ⦠Feel Better" makeover workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, 420 S. Jackson St. Local female cancer patients who are actively undergoing cancer treatment will have an opportunity to brighten their day by attending the workshop, according to a release. During the session, trained cosmetologists will meet with patients to discuss how to use makeup and accessories to minimize appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The workshop is offered in a group setting and provides participants with cancer education, information and support, according to the release. Each woman will learn to apply makeup using kits provided by the American Cancer Society's partnership with the Personal Care Products Council Foundation and the National Cosmetology Association. n Pottsville: Schuylkill United Way, for the 11th year, is hosting the Stuff the Bus campaign to help children of families unable to afford necessary back-to-school supplies. The program kicked off Monday and will run to July 29. The effort annually collects hundreds of supplies for children in need, according to a press release. Vans, donated by Newhurst Inc., will be placed inside the Schuylkill, Cressona and Fairlane Village malls where donations can be placed. The following supplies are needed: Backpacks, pens, pencils, erasers, notebooks, binders, folders, rulers, crayons, highlighters, staplers, markers and similar fare. The children and families in the following Schuylkill United Way partner agencies will benefit: Avenues, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boy Scouts of America/Hawk Mountain Council, Child Development Inc., Schuylkill YMCA, Schuylkill County Society for Crippled Children, SARCC, Schuylkill Wellness Services, Schuylkill Women in Crisis, Pottsville and Tamaqua Salvation Army units and the Tamaqua YMCA. Last year, more than 1,400 children received back-to-school items. Each agency, according to the release, carefully selects the children and families who receive backpacks, many of whom already participate in programs and services offered by the agency. The Schuylkill United Way and the Schuylkill Mall have special promotions during the Stuff the Bus event. On Tuesdays in July, prizes will be available to win at Stuff the Bus during Schuylkill County Idol. For every item donated to Stuff the Bus during the event, attendees will receive one ticket for the raffle prize. United Way will also host a Community Appreciation Day on July 23 at the Schuylkill Mall. Each of the United Way 15 member agencies will be there to provide children with a free craft or activity. United Way has partnered with the mall, which will provide a lunch and a craft that day and McCann School of Business & Technology will offer snow cones. Community Appreciation Day events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a free movie, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," compliments of Pearl Theatres.

n Tremont: The Tremont Area Free Public Library Chinese auction is set for July 28 with a shop-and-drop preview July 27. The event will be held at the borough building, 139 Clay St.. from 1 to 4 p.m. July 27 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 28. The drawing will be at 2 p.m. and the winner need not be present to win. There will be prizes, a special prize table and food both days, according to a release.
