Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency and the Planning and Zoning Department are looking for public input on the updated hazard mitigation plan.
The plan is available on the Schuylkill County government website at www.co.schuylkill.pa.us. In addition to viewing a draft of the plan, visitors can complete a short survey.
The purpose of the survey and public participation is to ensure that the plan is as relevant and understandable as possible to the residents in Schuylkill County.
County officials and representatives from its planning consultant, Vision Planning and Consulting LLC, presented the updated hazards, risks and mitigation actions to municipal leaders and local residents at a meeting in Schuylkill Haven in April.
In order to receive federal funds for disaster relief, county hazard mitigation plans are updated every five years.
The updated plan has added blight and nuclear power plant failure to a list of high-risk disasters for Schuylkill County. Also remaining on the list from 2007 are winter storms, floods, hurricanes and droughts.
