Two more bridges in Schuylkill County will be repaired this summer.

The commissioners extended an agreement with Alfred Benesch & Co., Pottsville, at a public meeting Wednesday for engineering services on county bridges No. 42 on Orchard Road, Rush Township, and No. 125 on Copp Road, Upper Mahantongo Township.

The repairs will be put out to bid this summer and completed by Oct. 31.

The original agreement was set to expire June 30.

Alfred Benesch & Co. was also awarded contracts for engineering services on two waterline projects in Cass and Schuylkill townships.

Both projects are part of the 2012 Community Development Block Grant administered through the county.

The contract for the Cass Township project is $41,100 and the contract for the project in Schuylkill Township is $42,300.

A stormwater project along Phillips Street in Coaldale went to Dirt Work Solutions LLC, Slatington. The contract for the 2012 CDBG project is for $33,682.50.

Another 2012 CDBG project is being advertised for stormwater improvements on Railroad Street from Oak and Chestnut streets in Frackville. Bids are due May 19 and will be opened May 22. A tentative award date is set for May 28.

The county retirement fund continues to do well. At the end of April, the total market value of the fund was at $121,905,739. As of Wednesday, it was $122,905,739.

To start the year, the retirement fund was about $111 million.

The account is 90 percent funded, county Controller Christy Joy said. That means if the county had to pay out everyone, the fund would be able to cover 90 percent of them. That is the highest percentage the fund has been at in recent years. Last year, it was at 84 percent.

"The market has gone up," Joy said. "The rising tide carries all boats."

The courthouse will be closed Tuesday for the primary election. The commissions' work session will be held at 10 a.m. May 22 in the Hoffman room.
