n Ashland: The Ashland Area Senior Citizens are accepting new members age 55 and older. Dues are $5 a year and meetings are held at 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month in the downstairs of the Masonic building at 2100 Centre Street. Free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings are done periodically by Family Medical. Other activities include indoor picnics, monthly birthday parties, bingo, a Halloween party and Easter hat parade. For more information, call Ruth at 570-875-3662 or Eleanore at 570-875-1734.

n Ashland: At a recent meeting led by President Connie Wydra, members of the Ashland Rotary Club learned that on June 21, Jason Piatt will be installed as Rotary District 7360 governor for the 2014-15 Rotary year. The festivities will be held at the Waynesboro Country Club, Waynesboro. As has been tradition for many years, the Ashland club will join the Rotary clubs of Frackville, Mahanoy City, Ringtown, Shenandoah and Tamaqua for a joint installation of officers. Ringtown is hosting this year's affair, which will be held June 22 at Ringtown Rotary Park.

n Frackville: The Frackville Area Senior Citizens group is sponsoring a bus trip to Bally's Atlantic City on July 17. The bus will depart at 8 a.m. and the cost is $35. The group also is sponsoring a bus trip to Mount Airy Casino Resort on Aug. 21. The bus will depart at 10 a.m. and the cost is $22, which includes a $25 rebate. n Girardville: Girard Hose Company No. 1 is holding its annual fund drive. Solicitation letters have been distributed in the company's service area. Contributions may be made by check payable to Girard Hose Company and sent to P.O Box 55, Girardville, PA 17935.

n Millersburg: The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art will continue its annual tradition of free music on the Riegle Deck at 6 p.m. June 14, featuring longtime working musician Pat Cusick. The Suggestions, Halifax, will perform as the opening act. For more information, go to the center's website at www.nedsmithcenter.org.

n Pottsville: A family friendly block party is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to benefit the Good Will Fire Company and Tyler Sincavage at Good Will Fireman's Grove, Water Street. The cost is $5 for unlimited children's activities and $5 for the adult scavenger hunt with prizes. Children's activities will include games, face painting and a bounce house. Patrick M. "Porcupine Pat" McKinney, environmental education coordinator with the Schuylkill Conservation District, will present "Appalachian Toys" until 1 p.m. There will also be food vendors and entertainment by a disc jockey. n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Valley Class of 2017 will hold a craft show and raffle from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Columbia Hose Company, West Centre Street and Stadium Road. Admission is free. Many crafters will be on hand with cash-and-carry items and baked goods. A raffle will begin at 3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the class. All are welcome.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Summer Concert Series will feature Jay Smar from 6 to 8 p.m. June 5 on the platform at the Tamaqua Railroad Station, weather permitting. For more information, call the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce at 570-668-1880.
