LOYALTON - A search will begin this summer to replace an exiting administrator in the Upper Dauphin Area School District.

Middle School Principal Michael Sim said his final day with the district will be June 30.

He's heading back to East Pennsboro Middle School to become their new principal. It's where he spent 20 years of his teaching career prior to his stint at UDAMS, which began last March.

"I would like to share that I have been blessed to work with an amazing staff and wonderful group of students at UDAMS," Sim said in an email to The Citizen-Standard.

"I have greatly enjoyed my time here. It was a privilege to have had the opportunity to have worked with a creative, gifted and caring staff. UDA is a great place to work, and it is not easy to leave. I want to thank Mr. (Evan) Williams, the superintendent; a supportive school board; and a community that has been positive to work with for the opportunity to be part of the UDA family, even for a short time," Sim said.

Sim spent his educational career teaching seventh- and eighth-grade mathematics at East Pennsboro Middle School and also served as Dean of Students.

It was announced at the May 13 school board meeting that an exit interview would need to be scheduled for Sim. Directors Gerald Wiest and Angela Mattern were absent.

Student trainer

The school board approved a new program called the Student Trainer Program. It will allow students to gain experience in the area of athletic training. Participants will understand the basic skills necessary to provide basic first aid to manage and treat injuries; help prevent injuries; assist in the rehabilitation of injuries; and gain knowledge of human anatomy, sports medicine, biomechanics, pathology, nutrition, strength and conditioning.

Students must meet certain criteria, including maintaining academic standing and a good disciplinary record, among other standards set by the Certified Athletic Trainer.
