SHENANDOAH - Assault and other charges against a Mahanoy City woman were withdrawn by the victim Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker.
Debra Ann Merook, 51, of 1035 E. Pine St., was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing but the victim, her daughter, Cynamon Merook, withdrew the charges.
Mahanoy City police Patrolman Thomas Rentschler charged Debra Merook with felony aggravated assault and aggravated assault of an unborn child, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment.
Rentschler said the charges stem from a incident May 6 outside of 1037 E. Pine St. where the mother and daughter became involved in an argument.
During the argument, Rentschler said Debra Merook slapped her daughter in the face prompting Cynamon Merook to hit her back to protect herself.
At that point, Rentschler said Debra Merook grabbed a broom and hit her daughter in the left arm and went to hit her in the stomach with the broom stick despite the fact the younger Merook was six months pregnant.
