Drugs found
in traffic stop
Two men were jailed following their arrests by Pottsville police when a traffic stop made about 11 p.m. Thursday revealed that they were in possession of drugs.
Police said the driver, Quinlyn Ritter, 29, of Pottsville, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and various traffic offenses. His passenger, Ivan Carrington, 38, also of Pottsville, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both men were arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $5,000 bail for Ritter and $25,000 straight cash bail for Carrington, police said.
Police said officers stopped the Isuzu Rodeo driven by Ritter in the area of Progress Avenue and East Market Street and found drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Ritter had synthetic marijuana, and during the stop, Carrington fled on foot but was quickly apprehended near Race and Centre streets.
Officers recovered 10 packets of heroin, two small baggies of crack cocaine and a small baggie containing marijuana along with $655, all belonging to Carrington, police said.
Police said that during the foot pursuit, one officer suffered an injury and was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street by Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS where he was treated and released. The injury, however, will result in lost time from work, police said.
City man jailed
in threat incident
A Pottsville man was jailed following his arrest by Pottsville police for threatening four men on May 21.
Police said Kevin Mohl, 26, was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, on four counts each of terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person and one count of persistent disorderly conduct. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail set by Hale, police said.
Police said officers were called to a report of an assault in the 500 block of Fairview Street and learned that Mohl had a steak knife and was threatening to kill Edward Frantz Jr., 21, of Pottsville, Robert Bensinger, 23, and Joshua Bensinger, 20, both of Minersville, and Tyler Barton, 20, of New Philadelphia.
Police said Mohl flailed the knife at the men, violently stabbed his own vehicle and continued his violent behavior even after police arrived. He was taken into custody and charged, police said.
