ORWIGSBURG - The borough council hired three people and accepted the resignation of another at a recent meeting.

The council adopted a resolution during the regular council meeting May 14 to hire Brandon Wagner as a full-time borough employee in the streets department. The council agreed by consensus at the work session May 7 to hire Wagner, who replaces retiree Harlan Rump, and passed the resolution for his employment at the meeting May 14.

Wagner started May 12 with a pay rate of $11.50 an hour.

Jake Brensinger was hired as a full-time laborer with the water and sewer department at a rate of $13.22 an hour. He starts June 2.

Jesse Kintzel was hired as a part-time seasonal employee at $9 an hour. His start date is June 3.

Michael Heimes, who was hired by the council in February for a part-time position with the Orwigsburg Police Department, submitted a letter of resignation earlier this month. His resignation was accepted by the council at the meeting.

Borough Manager Mike Lonergan said Heimes left the police department because he accepted a full-time job with a police department outside the county.

There are no plans to hire any additional police officers, Longergan said.

Roger Lehman, who was appointed a part-time police officer with the borough in November, was removed from probation and moved to part-time status as a police officer.

In other news, the council adopted a resolution recognizing the Orwigsburg Memorial Development Task Force as a "nonprofit entity dedicated to protecting the architectural heritage of the Borough of Orwigsburg."

Lonergan said the designation will allow the organization to hold additional fundraisers.
