HEGINS - Hegins Township police filed charges against a man for selling methamphetamine on Nov. 7 in the parking lot of a township business.

Frankie T. Carl, 21, of 209 Hill Road, Hegins, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Rossi, Tremont, on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communications facility, along with misdemeanor offenses of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released on $25,000 unsecured bail and will now have to appear for a preliminary hearing before Rossi in his Tremont courtroom.

Hegins Township police Sgt. Beau Yarmush said that on Nov. 7, he received information from a confidential informant that methamphetamine could be purchased from Carl that evening.

About 6:30 p.m., Yarmush and West Mahanoy Township police Chief Shawn Tray, a member of the Schuylkill County Drug Task Force, met with the informant and provided $160 that was to be used for the purchase.

The informant learned that Carl was waiting in the parking lot of Redner's Warehouse Market, 22 Forest Drive, an area designed as a drug-free school zone, and was taken to the business by police.

About 7 p.m., Yarmush said Carl exited a vehicle and then entered the vehicle of the informant but exited within minutes.

Under constant surveillance, Yarmush said the informant met officers at another location and handed over a clear plastic packet of white, crystallized powder.

The informant told officers that Carl sold the methamphetamine and was acting nervous, constantly looking around the parking lot.

Yarmush said the informant also reported that Carl said he was able to provide more methamphetamine as needed.

The sergeant said the baggie and its contents were taken as evidence and sent to the state police crime laboratory in Bethlehem for analysis.

A subsequent analysis was done and a report from the state police identified the material inside the packet as methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, Yarmush said.
