Police are still on the lookout for an inmate who escaped from the Schuylkill County Prison just after 4 p.m. Friday.
Jessie Wolfe, 30, of Schuylkill Haven, ran from two sheriff deputies while they were escorting him and two other inmates from the courthouse to the prison, Sheriff Joseph G. Groody said.
Wolfe remained at large as of press time Friday night.
"Right now, we are positioned with multiple police units and we are staking out several different areas," Groody said Friday. "The helicopters are out and we are doing the best we can."
After escaping the deputies, Groody said Wolfe ran to a nearby housing development and stole a 2000 Oldsmobile mini van. He was reported to have been seen driving on Old Route 22 near Hamburg, Berks County, but left the vehicle in a trailer park and took off again.
Groody said there were also several reports that Wolfe, still in handcuffs, was asking people for bolt cutters as he made his way through Schuylkill County and into neighboring Berks.
Wolfe was originally arrested Monday after Schuylkill Haven police had to chase him on foot through the borough. Borough police said Wolfe was a passenger in a vehicle they stopped, but got out of the car and ran when police realized there was a warrant out for his arrest in Berks County. He was caught about 30 minutes later.
Wolfe was also arraigned Tuesday on separate charges for leading police on a high-speed chase through the borough May 24.
Wolfe is about 6 feet tall, 200 pounds with short brown hair, brown eyes, facial hair and tattoos on both arms, Groody said. He was also still wearing a grey prison jumpsuit last time he was seen.
Anyone with information on Wolfe's location should immediately call state police at Hamburg at 610-562-6885 or their local police department.
