Two homes damaged by fire in Shenandoah

SHENANDOAH - A fire that apparently started in a kitchen Sunday severely damaged two homes and damaged three others on East Lloyd Street.

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of East Lloyd Street about 5 p.m. and found heavy fire coming from the back of 204 E. Lloyd St.

Flames severely damaged the home and caused heavy fire, smoke and water damage to 206 E. Lloyd St.

A building at 200-202 E. Lloyd St., formerly Quick Deli and Catering, sustained some fire and smoke damage.

In addition, 208 E. Lloyd St. sustained smoke and possibly some fire damage.

Firefighters arriving at the scene said there was heavy fire coming from the rear of 204 E. Lloyd St.

Firefighters tried to get a handle on the flames but could not do so before they spread up the wall of the home and into the ceiling and attic.

After receiving a report of a kitchen fire in the home, Shenandoah police arrived on scene quickly and found heavy fire blowing from the back of the home.

Fire officials and police could not confirm who or if anyone lived in the home but said no injuries were reported. Officials also couldn't say which of the other buildings were occupied.

Neighbors said a resident of 204 E. Lloyd St. was said to be cooking in the kitchen when fire broke out and spread from there.

Officials confirmed that scenario from statements received from witnesses at the scene.

Firefighters from Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, Frackville, Shenandoah Heights and other surrounding companies were called to battle the fire, while EMS units from Shenandoah, Mahanoy City and Lost Creek were also scene.

The Pottsville Fire Department was called for its Rapid Intervention Team and Shenandoah fire police as well as borough police assisted with traffic and crowd control.

The fire remains under investigation, officials said Sunday.
