Police investigate
arson on property
TREMONT - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating an arson that occurred at 4:51 a.m. Saturday at a mining company in Reilly Township.
Police said the a breaker had been dismantled at Hegins Mining Co., 290 Swatara Road, and rubble of wood and metal was piled on the property. Police said someone arrived on the property in a Toyota sedan, parked the car next to the pile of rubble and lit the car on fire.
Police said the fire spread to the rubble pile, summoning firefighters from Newtown, Branchdale, Donaldson, Llewellyn, Joliett, North End and Branch Township fire companies.

Mailboxes hit
near residences
AUBURN - Someone used a blunt object to strike two mailboxes owned by an Auburn woman Sunday morning on Meadow Drive in South Manheim Township, police said.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the damage occurred at 1:25 a.m. at 249 and 255 Meadow Drive, and the mailboxes are owned by Tammy Badger, 38.

Man charged with
careless driving
FEARNOT - A Valley View man was charged with careless driving and faces numerous citations following a one-vehicle accident Thursday evening on Fearnot Road, just west of Buxler Drive in Hubley Township, police said.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Timothy J. Specht, 33, was southbound on Fearnot Road at 7:40 p.m. when he left the west berm while rounding a left curve. Police said the man's 2005 Dodge Dakota traveled along the west berm in a southwest direction and struck an electric fence and then a tree.
Police said Specht was injured in the crash, fled the scene before police arrived and never reported the crash to police as required by law. Police said the citations will be filed through the office of Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi, Tremont.
Pottsville man
charged in theft
HAMBURG - A Pottsville man was charged with retail theft following an incident Saturday afternoon at Cabela's in Tilden Township, Berks County, police said.
State police at Hamburg alleged Alvin Charles Jones II concealed a black Carhartt folding wallet that was offered for sale at the store and left the store without paying for it at 5:17 p.m. Police said the charge will be filed through the office of Magisterial District Judge Kim L. Bagenstose.
Woman arrested
on DUI suspicion
SHOEMAKERSVILLE - An Auburn woman was stopped by police and subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI at 1:46 a.m. Saturday on Route 61 near Zions Church Road in Perry Township, Berks County, police said.
State police at Hamburg said Kelly Renee Free was stopped for a traffic violation when the arrest occurred. Police said an investigation is continuing.

LOST CREEK - A man faces harassment charges after he allegedly pushed and punched a woman Friday, police said.
West Mahanoy Township police responded to 533 Mount Olive Blvd. for a domestic dispute call at 8 a.m. Once there, police said Summer Krieger, 18, told them that Malik Rodriguez, 18, took her phone. While trying to get it back, Krieger said that Rodriguez pushed her to the ground and punched her in the face, causing swelling and bruising to her lips, police said.
Rodriguez will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, police said.
Locks cut, taken
from storage unit
SAINT CLAIR - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a theft and criminal mischief incident that occurred at Saint Clair Self Storage in East Norwegian Township between 8 p.m. June 14 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said Robert Lewis, Pottsville, reported that someone cut and removed two heavy-duty Master locks from a storage unit, damaging the unit in the process.

Woman faces
possession charge
FRACKVILLE - Borough police charged a borough woman with possession of a controlled substance after an incident at her 61 N. Railroad Ave. residence between 2:20 and 4:20 a.m. June 6.
Police said Tiffany A. Botzer will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale.
Police said officers were called to the home to meet Botzer, who said she knew who committed a recent bank robbery in New Castle Township. The woman reported that the man had a "big wad" of money and that on the day of the robbery, she purchased Percocet from him for $20, police said.
Asked if she still had the pill, police said that Botzer replied "yes" and voluntarily handed it over to the officer, resulting in the possession charge, police said.

GIRARDVILLE - Borough police are investigating thefts that occurred May 31 at a home at 225 A St.
Police said that Jillian Yachera reported that she and her husband went to a park and someone entered their home and broke picture of their children, scattering glass all over the house, and stole $40 cash, 60 Xanax pills, 45 Oxycodone pills and a 25-inch flat screen television set.

computer stolen
GIRARDVILLE - Borough police are investigating a theft that was reported to their department on June 2.
Police said Richard Ellenbrook said that he formerly lived at 234 E. Mahanoy Ave. with his now ex-girlfriend, Xennie Leroy, until sometime in February.
Ellenbrook said that when the two broke up and moved on, Leroy stole his Samsung tablet computer valued at approximately $1,000. The man said he had been paying $23 a week renting the tablet to own it at the time it was stolen, police said.
