n Ashland: Officers of the Ashland Area Rotary Club were installed during the recent six-club installation held at Roman's Lounge in Frackville. The Ashland, Frackville, Mahanoy City, Ringtown, Shenandoah and Tamaqua clubs participated. Ashland club officers installed included President Elaine Stone, Vice President Tom Canfield, Secretary Debbie Hall, Treasurer Jim Gruber and past district governor and Sergeant-at-Arms Frank Birster. The Rotary District 7360 governor installation was held recent at the Waynesboro Country Club, Waynesboro. The club's end-of-the-Rotary-year picnic is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the pavilion at Higher-Ups Park. Club President Connie Wydra will formally pass the gavel to Elaine Stone. The club will not meet on July 3 in observance of the Independence Day holiday and the "Thunder Over Ashland" fireworks display. The Rotarians have two concerts slated for the summer. The Shoreliners orchestra will perform at 6:30 p.m. July 9 on the parking lot at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The club will sell hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, chips and beverages beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Cressona Band will perform Aug. 13 at Eureka Park. The concert will be preceded by the club's annual chicken dinner. Tickets for the meal are $9 each and will go on sale in July. The concerts are free and open to the public. Attendees should bring lawn chairs.

n Barnesville: Schuylkill on the Move, which promotes steps toward good health through walking, will sponsor the Silver Creek Fire Tower Trek with naturalist Robin Tracey from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 19. The trek, according to an SOM release, will let participants enjoy the beauty of Locust Lake State Park as they hike to the historic tower built in the 1920s. Participants will meet in the Locust Lake visitors parking lot. The 8.5-mile trek is rated moderate. SOM walks and activities are held monthly and feature a variety of locations throughout the county and region. People can get a copy of the hike schedule by emailing Patrick M. SOM is a consortium of health and wellness organizations and agencies that include Schuylkill County's VISION, the Schuylkill County Visitors Bureau, Diakon Social Services for Seniors and Schuylkill Conservation District.

n Mahanoy City: Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church will hold a food and bake sale beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday in the courtyard at 22 S. Catawissa St. Homemade food, baked goods, funnel cakes and other items will be available. The menu will include barbecue, bean soup, bundukies, chicken pot pie, halupkies, halushki, stuffed shells, baked beans, pierogies, pulled pork, chicken barbecue, cold red beet soup and chili. A basket with $100 worth of lottery tickets will be chanced off at $2 a chance or three for $5.

n Mahanoy City: Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church is sponsoring a bus trip to Mount Airy Casino on Aug. 20. The bus will depart at 9:15 a.m. from the Service Electric parking lot. It will depart from the casino at 4:30 p.m. for the return trip. The cost is $21 and the trek includes $25 slot play and a free buffet for people 55 and older. For people under 55, the buffet is $10. n McAdoo: The McAdoo Fire Company sponsors weekly bingo games on Thursdays at the VFW/Strand Hall, South Kennedy Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m., early birds begin at 5:30 p.m. Regular games begin at 6 p.m. and go to 9:30 p.m. Parking is available in the fire company lot. Everyone is welcome.

n Summit Station: The 2014 Schuylkill County Fair will run July 28 to Aug. 2, starting at 10 a.m. each day, offering a huge variety of food, exhibits, animals, amusements and entertainment at the fairgrounds.
