n Lansford: At the Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., the end-of-program recognition night for youngsters ages 7-12 will be a 6 p.m. Monday. The end-of-program recognition day for children 3 to 6 is set for 10 a.m. July 29. The recognition programs will include prizes, certificates and treats for everyone who participated in the program.

n Mahanoy City: Two members of Post Q Anthracite Region, Travelers Protective Association of America, were elected to national offices at the 124th annual national TPA convention held recently at the Holiday Inn, Grantville, hosted by the Pennsylvania Division of TPA. William Kern Jr., Post Q board chairman, was elected Area Three safety chairman and Edwin Miller, Post Q secretary-treasurer, was elected Area Three community service chairman. Miller also was awarded the top past president award while Kern won a scrapbook award for articles and pictures published in The Republican-Herald. The Pennsylvania division had the largest turnout of delegates to this year's convention with 32. Mahanoy City-based Post Q had five with Bill and Sue Kern, Edwin and Dolores Miller and Harry O. Meyers. Post Q meets at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the Good American Fire Company hall. New members are always welcome.

n Minersville: An American Red Cross blood drive is set for 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Good Shepherd Building, 301 Heffner St. People who are 17 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in general good health are eligible to give blood. To make an appointment to donate blood, call 800-RED-CROSS or go onlin to www.redcrossblood.org.

n Pine Grove: The North End Fire Company, 118 N. Tulpehocken St., will sponsor a chicken barbecue from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $8 per meal and dinners will include a half chicken, cole slaw, vegetable, potato, roll and beverage. All are welcome. For more information, call 570-294-5147.

n Pottsville: Past President Clint Del Valle had charge of a recent meeting of the Pottsville Rotary Club and called upon Al Kiefer, who chairs the Pottsville Rotary Awards Committee, to present this year's Rotarian of the Year award to Dale Schoeneman, who had been nominated and recognized for always supporting Rotary projects and initiatives. This year also marks Schoeneman's 50th anniversary as a Pottsville Rotarian. Schoeneman spoke about what Rotary means to him, going back to 1964 when he joined the club. He spoke about using Rotary's core principles and 4-way test as a basis for his personal life and professional career. He also thanked his wife, Kay, who happened to be a guest at the meeting. She was not aware her husband would be given the award, according to the Rotary Bulletin.

n Schuylkill Haven: An American Red Cross blood drive is set for noon to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Jerusalem Evangelican Lutheran Church, 252 Dock St. People who are 17 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in general good health are eligible to give blood. n Tamaqua: A community collage with artist Vicky Dash will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center, 125 Pine St. The event is free and all materials will be provided. The collage table will be a lasting piece of the arts center, according to a release. Dash's art has been exhibited in several art galleries, including the Banana Factory and Icehouse in Allentown and the Nazareth Center for Arts. She is a member of the Schuylkill County Allied Artists.

n Weston: The Weston Athletic Association has an outdoor charcoal grill available for everyday use at the park. Those who take advantage of the grill are asked to make sure to clean it after using it. The organization also is doing another roof this year. Anyone interested in helping or donating for the kitchen roof project should call 570-384-3511 or 570-384-2375. The cost of the panels are $50 for small and $100 for large.
