MAR LIN - Bulls Head Road in Norwegian Township will soon be repaved.
Township supervisors awarded a bid July 8 to Reading Materials Inc., Skippack, for the project. The company was the lowest of six bidders at $149,856.25.
According to the supervisors, work could begin by September and take about a week to complete, depending on weather.
Supervisor Robert Kirwan said the entire road will be paved - something that has not been done in 25 years.
"It's been on one of our project lists," he said. "We're not borrowing money. We're not taking it out of the general (fund)."
Liquid fuels money will be used to do the work, he said. The supervisors said they budgeted $177,000 for the work.
The road received patch work periodically.
Supervisor Stanley Petchulis said on average, the road is about 28 feet wide.
The length to be paved is about 5,780 feet, a little more than one mile.
"The problem with that road right now is a heavy truck traffic presence," Kirwan said.
He added, "A lot of cracks and crevices where it is starting to break apart," are evident.
The supervisors considered doing work to the road about seven years ago, Kirwan said.
